Event Description

Join award-winning local author Hadil Ghoneim to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month.

Hadil will read from her new book, Arabic Folktales for Children: Timeless Stories to Share in English and Arabic. It is a bilingual collection of eight Arabic folktales, retold in both English and Arabic text and vividly illustrated for children.

Stories include the beloved folktale character Goha (aka Nasreddin Hodja) and his iconic donkey, a stubborn king bested by an old wise man, and a collared dove saved by her animal friends from the Kalila wa Dimna fables (which originated in the ancient Panchatantra).

Drawn from written and oral sources, these stories have survived for many centuries and traveled across continents thanks to the tradition of storytelling and translation that continues to connect people from around the world.

Reading will be followed by crafts and a signing, with books for sale from Black Stone Bookstore.

All ages welcome.
