When is Spring Break 2024 in Michigan public schools? By Michigan law, all public school districts in a county must share a common Winter Break and Spring Break. Ann Arbor Public Schools is part of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD). WISD quietly approved the calendars through 2026 in May 2021. This calendar includes Winter Break 2023, Spring Break 2024, Winter Break 2024, and Spring Break 2025.
Winter and Spring Break Schedules
WISD lists the breaks as the date that school ends and the date that school resumes. AAPS often lists the dates as days of school closed.
To confuse matters, I’m using a third method of reporting breaks. I am reporting the first day off (typically a Saturday) and the last day off (typically a Sunday)

Michigan Schools Spring Break 2024
Spring break continues to be the last week of March for Washtenaw County. Much of Michigan has the same week off..
Washtenaw County Spring Break is described as starting on the last Monday of March unless that is March 31, then it starts on Monday, March 24 (or Saturday, March 22). This exception applies to Spring Break 2025.
- 2023-2024 – Saturday, March 23, 2024-Sunday, March 31, 2024* (Easter Sunday)
- 2024-2025 – Saturday, March 22, 2025-Sunday, March 30, 2025
- 2025-2026 – Saturday, March 28, 2026-Sunday, April 5, 2026* (Easter Sunday)
In this 5 year cycle, Easter falls on the last day of break twice in 2024 and 2026. Since AAPS is typically off on Good Friday, it will be in spring break those years. Personally, I prefer when Easter is not part of spring break. Since many other areas tie their spring break to Easter, places would be both more crowded and more expensive.
When is Spring Break 2024 for high school in Michigan? They have the same spring break as elementary schools. However, your child may have school related activities that continue during spring break. In 2023, my daughter has a robotics competition over spring break.
When Does School Start in 2023 in Michigan?
Historically, the Michigan school year starts after Labor Day. However, a waiver is now available that allows Michigan schools to start the last week of August.
Washtenaw Intermediate School District had a waiver in place that allows districts to start early. Ann Arbor Public Schools will start on Monday, August 28. Saline also starts on August 28, 2023.
When does school start in 2024 in Michigan? We will have to wait and see. My guess is we will continue to see the pre-Labor Day start.
