Ann Arbor Recycling Options

As part of Earth Day, I thought I would also share some information on recycling options.

Car Seats

In honor of Earth Day Target kicks off their Car Seat Trade-In program (April 22-May 5). Bring in a car seat to a participating Target location, and receive 20% off of a new Car Seat, Booster Seat, Travel System, or stroller. Returned seats will be recycled by Waste Management. Note the website says that most Target locations are participating. But when I put in our local zip code, the Target on Ann Arbor-Saline Rd is not in the list. Ann Arbor East (Carpenter Rd) is on the list.

EWaste & Prescription Take Back Events

Ann Arbor Public Schools and University of Michigan Planet Blue usually team up on a large eWaste recycling event in the spring at Pioneer High School. This year they are planning one for June. They are looking for an alternate location due to the construction on Stadium Blvd near Pioneer.

There are a few other events.

Home Toxins

The Washtenaw County Home Toxins Reduction Program provides safe disposal of many home toxins. We have used this FREE program with great success in the past.

Prescription Drugs

Medication should not be flushed down the toilet. Select Pharmacies can take back non-controlled prescription and over the counter drugs. Some police stations provide a Big Red Barrel Program that will accept prescription or over the counter pills including controlled substances. More information can be found on Washtenaw County’s website.

Ann Arbor Reuse Options

Earth Day focuses on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. When looking at Reuse, there are several reuse sales coming up. Not only do they save you money, they help keep used items out of the landfill. Check out our Mom2Mom Guide for upcoming Spring 2018 sales.

Ann Arbor Mom2Mom Sales - Spring 2018There are two big book sales this weekend: Jay Lee Court holds their annual Ann Arbor event Thursday-Saturday April 19-21. Then Bookstock, Metro Detroit’s largest used book sale starts on Sunday in Livonia, a relatively short drive from Ann Arbor.

Also, don’t forget to check the various thrift stores and resale shops around town.
