Playgrounds are open. We encourage families to keep social distance and wear masks when distance can't be kept. Amenities like bathrooms and water fountains may not be available due to current restrictions.
This profile of West Park is part of our Summer Series Tuesday Playground Profiles
Each week Ann Arbor with Kids is profiling a different playground in the Ann Arbor area including Ann Arbor, Saline, Ypsilanti, Dexter, etc. Today we are profiling West Park.
West Park is a large park with bordered by W. Huron St, Miller Ave, Seventh Street, and Chapin St. It’s address is 215 Chapin St. It offers a small playground, a band shell, sports field, and paved walking paths
Location: 215 Chapin Street
Unique Features: Merry-go-round, Band Shell
Swings: Yes, 2 regular and 2 buckets
Surface: Woodchips and Sand
Bathrooms: I did not see any near the playground. The park’s description on the City’s website says there are restrooms, but their map of the park indicates only porta-pottys by the band shell.
Shade: The playground is fairly sunny at least in early spring with no leaves on the trees. There are picnic tables and benches near the playground. The walking trees are in the sun.
Pavilion: Not near the playground
Sports Fields: Baseball, Basketball, Tennis
Walking Trails: Walking paths run throughout the park. There is a steep hill if you are walking from Miller Ave.
Parking: There is a small parking lot on Chapin. There is also limited street parking on Seventh Street. When we attended a concert at the bandshell, we parked on the street near Mack Pool (715 Brooks St) and walked down Miller to Seventh.
West Park Playground Review
West Park is a destination park with it’s band shell and ball fields. However, the playground is more typical of a small neighborhood park than a destination park. The main draw to the park is the band shell and the ball fields.
Each summer the Ann Arbor Civic Band plays a series of Wednesday concerts at the West Park Bandshell. My daughter and I really enjoyed the concert we attended a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, our schedule has not worked out to attend concerts in recent years (softball games, travel, and more).
