Picnic Tables are a perfect addition to any park visit. When my daughter was younger, we usually brought snacks to the park. As she got older, we still had lunch or snacks, but I appreciated the option to sit while she played.
Since 2015, Ann Arbor with Kids profiles a playground a week each summer (except 2020). We have nearly 80 playground profiles throughout the Ann Arbor area and shared information about them with our community. At the time, we polled our readers for the information they most wanted to know and have continued to evolve our list.
A May 2022 question on Facebook indicated that Picnic Tables were a high source of interest that had not been previously indicated by our readers. While we did not previously gather this information, we were able to go back through our pictures, park websites, and Google photos to fill it in to the best of our ability on old playground profiles. Going forward we will gather that information on all playground profiles.

Picnic Tables are a very important feature of any park. Whether you want to have a picnic meal, or just share some snacks with the kids they are a playground necessity for many families.
We’ve taken the list one step further by indicating some key features of the picnic table – Are they at the playground? Are they shady? Are they splinter free (not made of wood)? We’re indicating that right on the list below with more details in the linked playground profile. Keep in mind that many parks have multiple picnic tables so not all features apply to every picnic table.
Since there are so many playgrounds with picnic tables, we are experimenting with the ability to search for playground features. Note, the filter is not perfect yet. Within each filter section, it will work as an OR. Across filter sections, the options work as an AND.
