Event Description

Join author, photographer, and architectural historian Dale A. Carlson as he discusses histories of the homes, architects, and residents of Detroit’s famed Indian Village neighborhood. Learn about the lives and legacies of numerous pioneer automakers, industrialists and financiers who called it home, including Hupp Motor Car Co. co-founder Robert Craig Hupp, Hudson Motors co-founder Hugh Chalmers, Hudson’s first chief engineer, George W. Dunham, Book Tower and Book-Cadillac Hotel namesake, James Burgess Book, Jr., and bridge engineer Frank C. McMath. The lives and legacies of architects Albert Kahn and Louis Kamper, both of whom designed numerous Indian Village residences, will also be considered.
