Growing up, my dad worked for Sears so we always had Kenmore appliances from Sears. My husband and I also stuck with Kenmore until the Sears at Briarwood Mall closed. Then, we’ve had to find new places to shop. We’ve shopped at Big George’s Appliances, Lowe’s, and Costco.

Do you need outdoor furniture for your new home? There are a couple of options for shopping for outdoor furniture.

Some of the furniture stores also carry outdoor furniture. The big hardware stores are also options for outdoor furniture. Over the years we have purchased outdoor furnishings from Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Menards. We also purchased from Meijer, Target, and Bed Bath and Beyond in the past. However, BB&B is no longer around and Meijer and Target have cut down on their outdoor furniture.
Shop for Lawn Maintenance and Equipment near Ann Arbor
When we first moved into our house, one of the first things we needed to buy was a lawn mower and other lawn equipment. We also bought a snow thrower our first winter. If you are buying new, we suggest buying electric versions.
The City of Ann Arbor is phasing in a ban on the use of gas powered leaf blowers. Through 2027 you can only use them from October 1-May 30. Then they will be banned at all times. While there are not currently bans on gas powered lawn mowers or snow throwers, buying a
There are several brands of electric lawn equipment available. In early 2026 we upgraded our snow thrower to an electric model after our previous gas powered unit developed a leak in the gas line. We decided to upgrade our lawn mower to an electric in summer 2026 to make sure we had units that could share batteries. We purchased an EGO+ snow thrower and lawn mower.
Home improvement stores are a great place to shop. We purchased our snow thrower from Hackney Ace Hardware and the lawn mower from Lowe’s. We recommend purchasing the snow thrower before winter hits. We were searching several Ace locations to find one in stock and had to manually shovel several times.

When we replaced our windows, we modified the configuration and found our previous blinds and shades no longer worked. So we were on the hunt for new curtains.

There are many options for shopping for carpets, hardwood, and vinyl plank flooring near Ann Arbor. When we replaced our floors, we started with picking up samples at Lowe’s and Home Depot to get an idea of the colors that would work in our house. We also stopped in at Floor & Decor (4110 Carpenter Rd). Some furniture stores also carry area rugs.

A great time to shop for Area Rugs is during the college shopping season! There are lots of options that pop up around town – at Meijer, Target, Lowe’s, Costco, etc. as college students return to town. Year round, we have bought smaller rugs from Kohl’s and Meijer. My daughter found a great selection of rugs at Home Goods. My daughter spotted the large rug for our family room while shopping for dorm supplies in At Home before they closed. Even though we were a year out from replacing our carpets with hard floors, it was so perfect we bought it ahead of time.
Some of the flooring stores above also carry area rugs. Plus there are options like Mir’s Oriental Rugs for a more traditional area rug style.

Where to shop for lighting will depend on if you are looking for installed lighting fixtures or table/floor lamps.
