I was planning to be finished with our Monday Summer Reading Recommendations since summer is over. Then, this evening I discovered that Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday is this week. You can’t go wrong with a Roald Dahl book.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
The only Roald Dahl books that I remember reading myself are Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and the sequel Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. Likewise, my daughter has read both books. Of course, after reading the books, there are two versions of the movie to choose from – the Gene Wilder or the Johnny Depp version.

James & the Giant Peach
James & the Giant Peach was a class read-aloud book when I was in school. I think my daughter has also heard the book read in class. This was another Dahl book that I liked.
The BFG
This summer Steven Spielberg brought Roald Dahl’s book The BFG to the big screen.
Other Books that Inspired Movies
Matilda was made into a movie in 1996. Fantastic Mr. Fox was also made into a movie in 2009.
