We (hopefully) have hit the hottest part of summer. With forecast highs of the upper 80s and even 90 this week, I have compiled a list of five ways to keep cool in Ann Arbor.
1 – Get Wet
Getting wet is always a great way to stay cool. Be sure to check our Top 10 Places to Get Wet around Ann Arbor. Of course, with temperatures of 90, it won’t be much fun for the adults unless they are getting wet with the kids.
2 – See a Movie
Movie theaters are traditionally well air conditioned. There are quite a few kid-friendly new release movies in theaters.
3 – Visit a Museum
There are several great museums in and around Ann Arbor. All of them are air conditioned! Our Top 5 Museums guide offers some great museum suggestions.
4 – Visit the Library
The Ann Arbor District Library offers five great places to spend a warm afternoon. Each branch offers books, movies, magazines, and CDs. The library offers a number of fun activities: both programming as well as toys and computer programs. Visit different branches to find all of the codes for the summer reading game. Plus be sure to checkout new books to help your child complete their summer reading list.
5 – Hang out at Home
Obviously this option only works if you have air conditioning. If you have a basement too it works even better. Here are some ideas for staying cool indoors:
- Have a movie afternoon (check the library for movies or check Netflix or Amazon Prime)
- Spend an hour or two reading to make progress on summer reading
- Work on your entry for the AADL LEGO contest
- Break out the board games, and have a game afternoon
Finally, don’t forget to stop at one of the ice cream shops recommended by Ann Arbor with Kids readers.
