Event Description

“A Long Journey Called Home” is pianist Anne Lovering Rounds’ solo piano program, literary event, and coming of age story.
The first half of “A Long Journey Called Home” revisits canonical repertoire from formative childhood years at the piano, including works by George Gershwin and W. A. Mozart. The second half offers pieces that became newly emotionally and technically available in adulthood, ending with noted contemporary American composer Missy Mazzoli’s stunning, cathartic 2022 work “Forgiveness Machine.” In the form of essays, the concert program notes chronicle a journey of self-discovery, injury, physical and mental recovery, and acceptance..Through performance and the literary arts, “A Long Journey Called Home” tells the story of growing up musically, bears witness to what it means to be a student, and invites listeners to be part of a journey still unfolding.
