Event Description

The Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival (A2CAF) is a celebration of comics, graphic novels, and the people who love them. AADL hosts the 10th annual comics festival (formerly known as Kids Read Comics!) The Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival (A2CAF) will feature over 50 of your favorite artists and authors including Jerry Kraft, Lucy Knisley, Raul the Third,  Wendy and Richard Pini, Raina Telgemeier, Judd Winick, Joamette Gil,  and more!  Kids, teens, and adults can participate in over 25 awesome cartooning workshops and creative games. Kids can also vote in the seventh annual Kids’ Comics Awards, the only comics awards chosen by kids. The winners will be announced during a ceremony on Sunday afternoon featuring puppets, supervillains, and more! 

Today’s Event Highlights:

  • 12:30-5:30p – Artists Alley – Meet Comic Artists, publishers, and more. There will be some material for sale, some giveaways – and lots of summer game codes
  • 12:30-1p – Quick Draw! –
    • Himashi Hewagama & Aaron Polk – Ann Arbor Art Center
    • Ruth McNally Barshaw & Dana Atnip – Downtown Library 1st Floor
    • James Anderson & Bruno Hohn – Vault of Midnight
  • 12:30-1:30p –
    • Author Discussion Raina Telgemeier & Jerry Craft (New Kid)- They will be discussing Jerry’s journey and how kids can find their own path. – Downtown Library 4th Floor Meeting Room
    • Signing – Lucy Knisley (Kid Gloves) and  Raúl The Third (Vamos! Let’s Go to The Market!). – Vault of Midnight
    • Signing – Wendy & Richard Pini (Elfquest) – Downtown Library 1st Floor
    • Let’s Draw Together – Cartoonist Lee Cherolis (Little Guardians) leads an exploration of drawing using toys as models – at Ann Arbor Art Center
  • 1:30-2:30p – Signing Jerry Craft (New Kid) – at Downtown Library 4th Floor Meeting Room
  • 2:30-3:30p – Kids’ Comics Awards Ceremony – at Downtown Library Multi-Purpose Room
  • 3:30-4p – Quick Draw! – Giselle Sarmiento & Madeline Zuluaga – at Vault of Midnight
  • 4-5p – Signings
    • Ben Hatke (Zita the Spacegirl and Mighty Jack) at Vault of Midnight
    • Raina Telgemeier (Smile, Drama, Sisters, Ghosts, and Share Your Smile) – Downtown Library 1st Floor
