Each week, the youngest 826michigan writers meet to play and explore what writing can do. Wee-Write is a writing and literacy program for 5-8 year-old students offered weekly to explore writing through different genres and themes.
In each session they do an icebreaker, read a book, talk about the book, and then use one of the author’s practices or themes in their own writing. Students experience the joy of writing however they are able, from the physical act to conversation-based brainstorming and development of new ideas.
Trained and background checked 826michigan volunteers support students as they write individually. At the end of the session students have the opportunity to share what they’ve written with the whole group.
This is a drop-in program and weekly attendance is not required—join when you can!
