RCTC Culinary Arts & Bakery Science

More Information

RCTC Culinary Arts and Bakery Science is for any Ann Arbor/Ypsi student who wants to explore or study in the culinary arts, bakery science or hospitality industries. In this class, students have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the exciting and developing professions in the culinary industry and bakery science industries using the National Restaurant Association ProStart curriculum. Through the ProStart program, high school students can learn career-building skills and get a taste for success in an industry that is hungry for talent. Students will become acquainted with the best practices in all phases of the culinary and bakery industry. Students will also compile a college/professional ready portfolio to showcase their mastery of the course competencies. In addition to many hours of hands-on experience, students will have the opportunity to venture out into the industry for 15-30 hours of “Work-Based Learning”. RCTC students also have the opportunity to test their skills in many competitions throughout the year. Students have competed in SkillsUSA, ProStart, American Culinary Federation and NASA Hunch Culinary Challenge, traveling as far away as the Johnson Space Center in Houston TX. Our annual holiday sales and bake shop provide funding for students to attend these competitions and other field trips.

Dixboro Project Thanksgiving

Last year, Dixboro Project offered a Thanksgiving Feast to Go that fed 10 people.

As of October 29, we only see pies and wine listed for 2024. We will check back for updates.

The holiday feast included hors d’oeuvres, 15 lb turkey, and all the sides including pumpkin pie for dessert. Wine pairings are also available.

In addition to the feast, they offered a “just the sides” feast that included hors d’oeuvres and sides. Pies are also available individually.
