Ann Arbor Indoor Pool Guide

Indoor Swimming Pool Guide

My daughter loves swimming! When she was younger, I found that swimming periodically would help her maintain her swimming skills. Fortunately there are a number of Ann Arbor Indoor Pool options so kids can swim year round.

Swimming Pools

The Ann Arbor Indoor Pools below are open to the general public with a daily admission fee. Pools that require a membership are not included in this list.

Mack Pool

Ann Arbor Parks operates Mack Indoor Pool. They offer open swim daily. Program offerings for children include swim lessons, Mermaid and Mermen Classes, Log Rolling, and Swim Team. They also offer adult training programs. Don’t miss their Dive In Movies and Splash Day special events.

Goldfish Swim School

Goldfish Swim School offers an hour long Family Swim several times a week. They are also a great place for lessons.

Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center

Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation operates the Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center. Their facility has an indoor pool which offers Open Swim daily as well as Family Fun Night on Friday nights. Daily admission is available.

Saline Recreation Center

The Saline Recreation Center offers both a lap pool and a leisure pool with an extensive list of open swim times. The rec center is open 5:30a-9:45p on weekdays. The leisure pool is closed from 4:30-6:30p on Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-7p on Tuesdays, and 9a-noon. The Leisure pool has limited availability from 8:30-9:30a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Whitmore Lake Community Pool

Admission to the Whitmore Lake Community Pool is very affordable – $2.50 for students (ages 4-college), and just $3 for adults. Through May 31 2017 they offer Open Swim on Monday and Wednesday evenings (6:30-8:30p) and Saturday and Sunday afternoons (1-4p).

Indoor Water Parks

In addition to indoor pools, there are two nearby indoor water parks. While both offer hotel packages, they are both an easy day trip from Ann Arbor. They offer both full and half-day rates.

Splash Universe

Splash Universe is located in Dundee near Cabelas. They have two tube slides, a play structure with smaller slides, a lazy river, and a special area for small kids. Be sure to mention that you are from Washtenaw County for a discounted daily rate. They are not open daily, so be sure to check their calendar.

Splash Village

Zehnder’s Splash Village in Frankenmuth expanded a couple of years ago. My daughter and I visited with friends over mid-winter break in 2016. The new expansion is bright and airy with a new family raft slide, a drop slide, a second lazy river and a pool area. The original area offers two tube slides, play structure, kids play area, and more.

Swim Lesson Options

If you are looking for indoor swimming lessons, there are a number of options locally:

  • Ann Arbor Mack Pool – These were my favorite indoor lessons since the levels aligned with the Ann Arbor Parks outdoor pools
  • Goldfish Swim School
  • Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center
  • Pittsfield Township – offered at Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center – we did parent/child classes here, but I was not a fan of the next level classes since my daughter could not stand where they were taught.
  • Saline Recreation Center
  • Liberty Athletic Club – Offers Lessons for Members and Non-Members
  • YMCA – May offer lessons for non-members
  • Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, Lincoln, Whitmore Lake – May offer swim lessons at their high school pools.
