Did you know that Saturday, May 19 is Kids to Parks Day. The good news is we have tons of great parks in the Ann Arbor area making it easy to get to a park.
Ann Arbor Kids to Parks Day Events
Locally, Hike It Baby Ann Arbor is running two events for Kids to Parks Day:
Parks for Hiking
Last summer Hike It Baby Ann Arbor shared their favorite Ann Arbor hikes with kids.
Ann Arbor Playgrounds
The easiest way to take kids to a park is to visit a playground. We love exploring the different playgrounds throughout town. Checkout our Playground Profiles and explore a “New to You” playground.
Parks for Splashing
Saturday may have temperatures forecast to be low 70s and rain, but temperatures have been peaking in the upper 70s some days. With pools and spraygrounds not open until Memorial Day weekend, it’s great to know which parks offer options for splashing.
Other Park Activities
Beyond playgrounds and hikes, our local parks offer much more fun.
Last summer we discovered the Argo Cascades. This summer maybe we’ll even venture further and tube to Island Park.
Gallup Park also offers canoe/kayak trips and can be an end point for tubing. They also have a youth fishing pond. Plus several great playgrounds and nice trails for walking.
Last summer we also visited Jump Island at Brighton State Recreation Area. This is definitely a lot of fun for tweens and teens.
Of course our local County Parks offer water activities beginning on Memorial Day. Independence Lake has a swimming beach and Blue Heron Bay Splash Park. Rolling Hills is one of our favorite with their Water Park.
I have yet to visit Kensington Metropark. They have a nature center, farm center, splash n blast area, boat rentals, and more. Sounds like a fun way to get kids to the park.
