Tonight was opening night of Skyline High School’s production of Into the Woods. We decided to take my daughter since she loves music and the fairy tales.
The show was at 7:30 and arriving at 7:20 we had plenty of time to purchase tickets and find decent seats without a lot of extra time to sit around waiting.
We were not sure how our kindergartner would do with the content and duration of the play. She loved it, but did get bored at some slow points when songs seemed to drag out.
The show ran about 2 hours and 45 minutes including an intermission. The first act was 90 minutes ending at 9p, my daughters usual bedtime. She was a little restless due to being tired, but was still enjoying herself. We had no one next to us, in front of, or behind us which made it a little easier for her to squirm.
The production had the typical opening night glitches you would expect for a high school performance…a couple of flubbed lines and some microphone glitches. But, they did not detract from our enjoyment of the show.
I recommend seeing the show. However, I suggest one of the matinee showings for kids unless they are night owls.
The broadway cast album for Into the Woods quickly became a favorite.
