Join Dr. Gustavo Souza Marques (Gusmão), Assistant Professor of Musicology at the University of Michigan, for a talk on his recently released book, Tyler, The Creator’s Hip Hop Revolution: Beyond Gangsta, published in Bloomsbury’s New Approaches to Sound, Music and Media series.
Drawing on his work as an ethnomusicologist, multi-instrumentalist, and hip hop producer, Marques explores how Tyler, The Creator, reshaped hip hop through sound, identity, and creative independence.
This talk is part of the Society for American Music’s Sounding the Nation initiative, which brings music scholarship to a broad public audience.
