Halloween Party at UM Natural History Museum

Yesterday we went to the Halloween Party at the Natural History Museum and had a great time. It was our first visit to the museum, but we did not get to see much. We have plans to return with our playgroup in a few weeks.

They had a few treat stations setup outside and a few games. My daughter loved the hopscotch mat. I have a great picture of my Tinkerbell flying down it towards the treats. All of the staff was in costume. There were some great costumes – a bag of Jelly-Bellys made from balloons, a Jafar, and several others.

There were craft projects, treats, and a story time. We stayed for two stories, made a spider from pipe cleaners and a bead, and made a cotton ball ghost. My daughter was confused by the cotton ball ghost because we have done a similar craft from a lollipop and they were giving away lollipop treats after you completed your craft. There were also creepy cauldrons where you could reach in to touch fingers (baby carrots), teeth (popcorn kernels), and eyes (grape tomatoes). The cauldrons were high enough that most children could not see in them. She was not brave enough to reach in even after I showed her what they really were.

There was not an abundance of candy given out, but they were very generous with stickers. Since we are doing numerous trick or treat events, I really liked getting stickers instead of more candy.

The event was very crowded, but it was manageable. It lasted for 4 hours and was designed for people to be coming and going during the event. I think we stayed for about an hour.

We had fun and will plan to return next year.
