I know it is way too early to be thinking about Christmas, but I wanted to share the news that the 2016 LEGO Advent Calendars are now available. Yes, a new set is released every year. There are currently 3 themes: Star Wars, City, and City. I’ve tried to convince my daughter to reuse the calendar by refilling the compartments. But, Dad argues for a new one every year.

The LEGO Advent Calendars offer a mini-set to assemble each day of December counting down to Christmas. Each day’s pack will include either a mini-figure with a few accessories, or a small set to put together. The assembly only takes a couple of minutes. The Star Wars and City calendars average about 12 pieces, while the Friends calendar averages 9 pieces.
Buying the LEGO Advent Calendars
My daughter has had a LEGO Advent calendar since age 3 or 4. We started with the LEGO City Advent Calendar and switched to a LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar after 2 years. Our first two LEGO Advent Calendars were actually purchased at a 50% discount after Christmas. So we were a year behind. Then, LEGO adjusted the quantity made, and we couldn’t find one after Christmas the next year. At that time, you were still able to find them into early December.
Last year the LEGO Advent Calendars were in high demand, especially the LEGO Star Wars one. In mid-November we started shopping and all of the local stores were sold out – including the LEGO store in Troy. I was able to get one of the last ones at Target.com in mid-November. Other online sites (including LEGO) were either sold out or selling the set at an increased cost.
This year, we didn’t want to take any chances. As soon as we saw the set available online, we ordered it. In addition to the Star Wars set, there is also a LEGO City Advent Calendar and a LEGO Friends Advent Calendar.
The 2016 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar
Our LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar arrived yesterday. I love this set! I think it is one of my favorite Star Wars Advent Calendars that we’ve had over the years.

There are so many cool characters –
- Snow Chewbacca with green & red bandolier

- Silver C3-PO

- Snow trooper building a snowman.

- My husband and daughter are thrilled that a Bespin guard is included with the set.
The box itself is quite interesting. I love how the characters are posed on the front. I just wish the tie-fighter actually came wrapped in holiday lights! When unfolded to reveal the individual boxes, a nice display scene is revealed that encompasses Tatooine, Naboo, and Hoth. How perfect is it to see the AT-AT wrapped in Christmas lights! Even the homes on Tatooine are wrapped in lights.
