Huron Village Halloween Happening Review

My daughter and I attended the Huron Village Halloween Happening event today. We started at 11a with story time at Barnes and Noble. We stopped at all the stores in the event.

Fortunately I budgeted extra time to make it to Huron Village today since the event started at 11a and there was a home football game starting at noon. I did run into some traffic, but with some thought to my navigation I was able to avoid the worst of the traffic headed west on Washtenaw by going further north and then coming south on Huron Parkway. I live on the south east side of town so it was manageable. If I lived west of the stadium, I probably would not have tried to get to the event.

Next year we may skip the story time. My 5.5 year old was one of the older children at story time. The story time went until 11:20 and there was quite a caravan trick or treating through Barnes and Noble and then to the adjacent stores.

Panera had someone setup outside giving out delicious hot chocolate complete with whipped cream if you wished. The portion was not skimpy at all. My daughter won’t drink anything remotely hot, so I got to keep sipping it as it cooled. Walgreens was taking pictures of the kids for pickup a little while later (great idea, gets you in the store twice). She also got stickers and candy from AT&T and Georgetown Gifts.

Flat Top was a little inconvenient because it required crossing the parking lot. It was easy to get there from Walgreens by walking past Barnes and Noble (we had to return a Walgreens purchase to our car anyway).  However, we were headed from there to Whole Foods so we either had to walk back to Barnes & Noble or go across the parking lot.

Trick or Treating at Whole Foods was a mixed experience. There was initially a long line (to get a treat bag). They told us we could skip that station, but our friend needed a bag, so we waited in line. The other treat stations flowed smoothly, except the one upstairs. The only way up (or down) is via an elevator which was a bit slow as it isn’t built for the capacity they had. The treats upstairs made up for the wait. They had mini-cupcakes (or cookies for those like my daughter who aren’t a cake fan) and were doing a drawing up there. It seemed like most kids were getting a wind up toy, although my daughter won a water bottle and I saw some gift cards on the prize table. I think she was wondering why she didn’t get a windup toy.

Overall we enjoyed the Huron Village Halloween Happening. I definitely would recommend it for anyone looking to celebrate Halloween next year.
