Lowe’s brought back their free Build & Grow workshops in early 2022. These offer kids a great chance to be a maker.
About Build & Grow Workshops
Lowe’s has offered their Build & Grow Workshops for many years. They used to be offered most weekends and were often themed to either the season or a movie release. They canceled the program in 2017. At that time, you could purchase kits for home assembly. They brought back in person Build & Grow Workshops in early 2022.
My daughter is a teenager, but we attended these workshops when she was younger. One of her favorites was making a “Pilnko” game. I used to have a review article on this experience, but deleted it in a website cleanup when the program was discontinued. Fortunately, I was able to find a copy on the original web platform.
My daughter was 6, in Kindergarten when we attended this workshop. She was the perfect age and able to do much of it herself. I would recommend the program for preschoolers to early elementary. You will have to provide more assistance to younger kids. Older kids will be more independent.
The workshop was held in a classroom in the back of the store near the restrooms. We were a couple minutes late, and it was easy to find the room by listening to the sounds of kids hammering. The project really starts from basic parts as you can see below.
They had aprons and safety glasses available, but my daughter had to ask for them. I really wish the safety glasses were automatically handed out. It’s never too early to teach project safety. We found it easier to hammer by kneeling on the floor instead of the tables But once the hammering was done, my daughter returned the project to the table to add her stickers.
Simple, easy to follow instructions were included for a parent to help guide their child. The project was self-paced so everyone could work at their own pace.
When she was done, she received a certificate and an iron-on patch for her apron.

Registration for Build & Grow Workshops
Registration opens on the first of the month for that month’s workshop session. Each workshop has two sessions in the morning. Once those sessions are full, they offer a pickup option where you can pickup the kit for completion at home.
The events are typically popular and sell out well in advance. Mark your calendar for the first of the month to ensure you get your spot.
