Review of 2016 Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival

My daughter and I attended the 2016 Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival. My daughter was thrilled that Tom Angleberger was the featured speaker that year. She loves his Origami Yoda and Rocket & Groot series. We attended his opening morning talk at AADL and his book signing at Vault of Midnight. At Vault of Midnight we also met his wife who was singing her graphic novel El Deafo.

That afternoon, we also attended interactive drawing events at Robot Supply & Repair. Usually I sit back and work on my laptop or phone. This time I joined in the drawing and had a lot of fun.

We were busy the weekend of the 2017 Comic Arts Festival and did not make it last year. We are planning to attend this year.

Science Comics: Rockets

Anne and Jerzy Drozd are the Ann Arbor authors of the Science Comics: Rockets – Defying Gravity.

Science Comics: Rockets - Title Page

Science Comics: Rockets – Defying Gravity is a non-fiction book about rockets, specifically how they defy gravity. The book explores both the history of rockets and the science behind some of the challenges. My daughter loved the book and was reading and re-reading it for weeks after receiving our advanced copy. As I was paging through it for the review, I also found myself getting absorbed into the book.

Science Comics: Rockets – Defying Gravity presents the science and history with a humorous tone. Tweens and teens will enjoy the comic..and their parents will learn something too.

At Comic Arts Festival

Anne & Jerzy Drozd are also involved as creators and organizers of the Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival. This year they will be participants at the festival signing their book and participating in panels.

Get your copy of Science Comics: Rockets at the Festival and get it singed. Signings at:

  • Saturday, June 16 2-3p at Vault of Midnight
  • Saturday, June 16 4-5p on 1st Floor of AADL’s Downtown Branch

They will also participate in Quick Draw on Saturday from 12:30-1p at Robot Supply & Repair.
