Event Description

The African American Downtown Festival is held each year at the beginning of June. The festival is held in the historic black business district of the old 4th ward and Kerrytown.

There will be music and performances, food for purchase, vendors, and kids activities. Kids Korner is in the Washtenaw County Courthouse parking lot at Main & Ann St.

Some highlights for the kids:

  • 9a – Vendors Open
  • noon-5p Kids Korner Open –
    • Giant Games from AADL
    • Cotton Candy Making
    • Hands on Arts & Crafts with Dr. Susan Gelman Conceptual Lab at the University of Michigan
    • 3D Art Demos & Make It Take It Crafts. UM Children’s Center
    • Activities with LSNC & AAHOM
    • Bounce Houses
    • Youth Vendors including Addison’s Lemonade
  • noon-1:30p – Exotic Mobile Zoo
  • noon-3p – Face Painting by Colorful Events
  • noon-4p – Bike repair Demos
  • 1:30, 3:30, & 5p – BIG Best in Games – Cornhole Tournament
  • 2-4p Balloon Twisting with Twist & Shout the Clown
