AADL is celebrating all things dinosaur! Interact with fossils from University of Michigan Museum of Natural History, learn about paleontology with a special performance by Spinning Dot Theater, make dinosaur-themed crafts, and unearth fossils at their dino dig sites! Stop by the kids area to complete a scavenger hunt and hop, skip, and jump into the dino-themed open play area in the story corner. Then relax for a little while with family-friendly dinosaur movies. Be sure to join AADL for this in-fossilbly fun day!
For ages Preschool-5th Grade
Activities include:
- 11:30a-12p – Dig! An Interactive Performance – 1st Floor Lobby – For babies -preschoolers – Dig! introduces young audiences to the wonders the world of paleontology holds. In this interactive performance, an enthusiastic young explorer shares the many treasures she finds at her dig site. From dinosaur bones to stones, each artifact has a story trapped inside. Join her as she seeks to uncover fossils and identify a mysterious dinosaur footprint!
- 11:30a-1p – Screening: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – 4th Floor Program Room – preschool-elementary age – Movie is rated PG
- noon-3p – Dino Dig Sites – Secret Lab – For preschool-5th grade – No one is too small to be a paleontologist with our mini dino dig sites! Use provided tools to excavate fossils and toy dinosaur skeletons.
- noon-3p – Crafts – Lower Level Program Room – For Preschool-Grade 5 – Drop in to make fun dinosaur themed crafts
- 2-4p – Screening: The Good Dinosaur – 4th Floor Program Room – preschool-elementary age – Movie is rated PG
- 2-2:30p – How to Become a Fossil – 1st Floor Lobby – Explore how fossils are created. What parts of an animal become fossilized? How old are the earliest fossils? Touch fossils, discover how things fossilize, and see how fossil casts are made in the museum
