Have you been accumulating drafts of poems and never gotten around to finishing them? This workshop is for poets who would like to gain insight into editing their own work, before submitting it to publishers and professional editors. We will look at the several stages of the editing process: the structural edit (where we consider the shape and development of the poem as a whole); the line edit (where we consider how each line contributes to overall cohesion of the piece, and spot issues with grammar); and the proof (where we look for typos, spelling, punctuation, and shape on the page).
Poets at all stages of their writing are welcome at this event, and it will be particularly useful to those who are working on assembling a full collection, when issues of theme, form, and voice guide the decisions to include or exclude poems. Bring an original poem for the workshop, and we will work on creating a “finished” piece.
Carmen Bugan is a critically acclaimed author and poet who has published multiple collections of poetry, including Lilies from America, Time Being, and Tristia.
This event includes a signing with select works for sale.
