Their Press Release:
SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE PRESENTS Hadestown
ANN ARBOR, Mich. __ Skyline High School is thrilled to announce its production of “Hadestown,” a captivating folk opera that is sure to leave audiences spellbound.
Sixty-two student actors, musicians and technicians will be featured in the show, which runs from May 2-4 at Skyline.
“Hadestown” tells a tale of two intertwining love stories: the youthful romance of Orpheus and Eurydice and the eternal bond between King Hades and Lady Persephone. With its rich narrative, “Hadestown” offers a theatrical experience that is both resonant and uplifting, taking audiences on a transformative journey to the underworld and back.
Set against the backdrop of 1930s Detroit at the dawn of the labor movement, Skyline’s version of “Hadestown” reimagines the classic tale through the lens of a pivotal moment in American history. The production highlights the struggle between industry and nature, faith and doubt, and fear and love, all woven together with a soundtrack that draws from the traditions of American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz.
The set design pays homage to ancient Greek theatres while incorporating elements reminiscent of Detroit’s Packard Plant, creating a visually striking environment that enhances the storytelling.
“I felt it was important for the students to connect this story to a more local story. When I initially presented the design concept of Detroit’s struggle to better the working conditions of auto workers and the now demolished Packard plant, the students were very enthusiastic,” said Anne-Marie Roberts, Director of Skyline Theatre.
“Hadestown” will be presented on May 2 and May 3 at 7 p.m. and on May 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. They can be purchased at the door or at skylinehstheatre.org.

The local productions are so much less expensive than the touring productions so we can see more performances. There are lots of […]
