The Early Learning Center (ELC) provides a unique preschool program for children in the Ann Arbor Area. They have been operating since 1975. Early Learning Center offers a traditional half-day preschool program for children 2 1/2 to 5 years of age. Children ages 2.5-3 years old are in the Caterpillar class. Children ages 4-5 are in the Butterfly class.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has accredited ELC. This distinction recognizes the school’s commitment to providing high-quality early childhood education.
Early Learning Center’s Philosophy
The Early Learning Center’s mission is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for preschool-aged children of all cultural backgrounds and abilities. They believe that learning takes place primarily through exploratory play. They offer a variety of both directed and non-directed activities. Early Learning Center encourages children to develop a strong sense of curiosity, self-esteem, and independence. Because our staff also believes that children are happiest and most productive when given order and limits, but with the freedom for individual expression, the daily schedule alternates structured group activities with periods when the children are encouraged to select their own activities and playmates.
Early Learning Center believes that a good preschool program offers both teacher and child-directed activities. Teacher-directed activities allow teachers to interact, direct and engage with the students. Child-directed activities encourage each child to plan and think about what they are doing.
Early Learning Center Class Schedule
Early Learning Center offers classes either on Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday from 8:45-11:45a. ELC offers both early bird (starting at 8:15 am) and lunch extensions daily (11:45-12:30 pm). There is an option to extend the day until 3:15p on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through a variety of interesting and interactive enrichment extensions: Around The World, Pizza Play Shop, and Story Theatre.
