These “I am Lucky Because” Pot of Gold Printables are a great St Patrick’s Day Writing Prompt. The FREE printables have versions for preschoolers through high schoolers or even adults.
I Am Lucky Because Template
During the initial COVID stay at home order in 2020, I was looking for St Patrick’s Day ideas to do with kids.
With kids having lost so much during stay at home, the “I am Lucky” writing prompt really stood out to me. Two sites had different versions of an “I Am Lucky” prompt.
- What I have Learned – A Craftivity with the prompts hidden behind the leaves of a 4 leaf clover.
- Teachers Pay Teachers – A Classroom bunting where each student contributes their own thoughts.
Since St Patrick’s Day should be a shamrock and not a four-leaf clover, I decided to use a pot of gold template to represent St Patrick’s Day.
I created my own printable pot of gold templates featuring a rainbow a pot of gold, and writing prompts.
The printable has 4 versions of the I am Lucky pot of gold templates for different age levels.
Preschool St Patrick’s Day Template
The template for preschoolers starts with the prompt “I am lucky because I have…”. It does not include lines for writing. Instead, there is plenty of room in the pot for them to draw what they are lucky to have. Then, it works as one of their coloring pages. It is also perfect to pair with another pot of gold craft. (Note for better printability, please download the PDF instead of using the image).

Early Elementary St Patrick’s Template
The template for Early Elementary includes the same writing prompt as the preschool template. It includes lines designed for early writers to list a few things they feel lucky to have.

Upper Elementary I am Lucky Template
The Upper Elementary template includes narrower spaced lines to let kids write more. It also shortens “because I have” from the prompt to “because” to allow for more flexibility in their writing.

Middle & High School St Patrick’s Day Writing Prompt Template
The template for middle and high schoolers actually has a second writing prompt. In addition to “I Feel Lucky Because”, it also includes “I Can Share my Luck by….” This allows them to think about not just what they have, but what they can share as well.
