Thank you to everyone who made Halloween so much fun this year.
Friday night we attended Hallowe’en at Greenfield Village and had lots of fun. One of my daughter’s favorite part is seeing all the inventive pumpkin carvings that they have done. She does prefer Holiday Nights when the houses and shops are open and you can visit inside them. I do wish some of the houses were open so we could see how Halloween was celebrated in different eras.
On Sunday afternoon, we went to the Family Halloween Party at UM Natural History Museum. The student employees typically do a great job with their costumes, and this year was no exception. A new feature this year (or one we had not seen in the past) was live snakes, lizards, etc. that the kids could pet. The kids loved that.
Today my daughter’s class had a Halloween Party. As room mom, I had brought a few activities for the kids while some of the parents brought food and other treats. We had two skull cakes, candy corn Rice Krispie Treats, cupcakes (including some gluten-free for one child in our class), cookies, and fruit. I also discovered that our class loves lemonade. Then we had parents who sent in pencils, whistles, erasers, tattoos, Thank you to all the parents who stayed to help and for your contributions. Her school does a parade through the neighborhood. Thank you to the local residents who came out to support the school and watch the parade even in the cold, windy mist.
After a brief stop to trick or treat at her grandparents, we stopped by Chipotle for dinner thanks to their $2 Boorito (or whatever you wanted to order) special for anyone in costume. My daughter really enjoyed her Kids Make Your Own Taco and I had a Burrito Bowl (YAY, my witch’s hat with a black skirt & purple shirt qualified as a costume). Thank you for making Halloween dinner cheap & easy.
Thank you to the weather. The remnants of Hurricane Sandy seem to have cleared out nicely. While it is still chilly, it has been mostly dry for the outdoor events.
Finally, thank you to my trick or treaters. They have mostly been in costume (even the one who said she needed to stop since she isn’t even in high school anymore). They have mostly been great about only taking a piece or two of candy when offered the bowl…some won’t even take more than one when I offer them a couple more pieces. Please, take my candy…I don’t want tons leftover.
A final thank you, to Ann Arbor District Library & the Main Street Area Association. While we were not able to attend this year, I would like to thank you for the previous 6 years of wonderful events. I heard from a few parents with younger children in my daughter’s class that they had fun today.
