Importance of Flu Shot
As always, your (or your child’s) doctor is the best source for any medical information. Both national and local health departments are strongly recommending the flu shot for 2020.. Washtenaw County Health Department is recommending the flu shot for everyone ages 6 months and older.
Ann Arbor Area Flu Shot Clinics
Flu Shot Clinics range from those open to the general public to those offered to certain groups. For example, many employers offer them or health centers offer them to their patients.

Health Center Clinics
Michigan Medicine offers flu shot clinics for their patients. Existing patients can make an appointment in the MyUofMhealth patient portal. They offer drive-thru clinics at:
- Briarwood 10
- Eisenhower Corporate Park 2
- Canton Health Center
I tried to schedule an appointment and currently only the Canton Health Center had drive-thru openings.
They also offer in-clinic flu shots at the following locations:

- Ypsilanti Health Center
- Brighton Health Center
- Northville Health Center
Currently only the Ypsilanti and Northville locations have in clinic openings.

School & Employer Flu Shot Clinics
University of Michigan runs flu shot clinics through University Health Services (UHS). Students, faculty, staff, and dependents (ages 10+). Insurance will be billed for students or the university will cover if there is an out of pocket expense. For others, the cost is $40 and they only accept limited insurance and may require a UHS doctor as your primary care physician. They also have flu clinics provided by Michigan Visiting Care that are limited to student and faculty/staff.
Other Ann Arbor Area Flu Shot Sources
There are many other options for receiving your flu shot. My daughter has gotten her flu shots at her doctor if she has an appointment when they have them in stock.
My daughter and I often get our shots at Target. After last year, I have joked that I’m only going to Target for the flu shot. Last year, my husband got his flu shot at a UM clinic for employees and had the flu in November. My daughter had her flu shot at her pediatrician and probably had the flu (or maybe COVID) in late February. I got the shot at Target and did not get the flu from either of them.
