Last night we attended the A2 Grub Crawl with friends. We had a great time and will definitely plan to participate the next time the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Chamber hosts a Grub Crawl. Our friends had also attended the Ypsilanti Grub Crawl in the fall and recommended it to us.
The Grub Crawl ran from 6-9p and we used almost the entire time. The participating restaurants were spread out from Pizza House on Church Street to Tea Haus in Kerrytown with restaurants in the Main Street corridor also participating. Golden Limousine ran a trolley with 4 stops between the restaurants. While you could have walked the entire distance, the trolley was faster and helped us finish the crawl in the 3 hour time span. There was a chance of a thunderstorm so I brought umbrellas with us, but the weather ended up being perfect. It was a great temperature and the skies remained clear – and I didn’t leave the umbrellas at any of our stops. Most of the restaurants had a private area set aside for the Grub Crawl with foods laid out. I was surprised that there were not more people on the Grub Crawl.
We arrived at Pizza House (Church St) right at 6p to get started. They were the furthest from the other locations, but offered convenient parking and food that was sure to be kid-friendly. They had a very nice spread laid out – pizza, fruit, veggies, cheese, and dessert (cookies/brownies). They also included soft drinks at no extra charge (other restaurants charged for beverages). It was our first visit to Pizza House, but definitely won’t be our last.
From Pizza House, we caught the trolley to Liberty St and walked to Buffalo Wild Wings. For the Grub Crawl they had us enter the bar area from Washington St. They had three different types of boneless wings out – Honey Barbecue, medium, and spicy. They were also offering $3 pints. I enjoyed the wings, but the kids found even the Honey Barbecue sauce too spicy.
Seva had their Grub Crawl at the bar and were bringing the food from the back as guests arrived. I enjoyed my food, but preferred the places that had the food out for us to help ourselves.
Our next stop was Conor O’Neills. Their bread pudding was amazing. They also had salad, shepherd’s pie, and fishermen’s stew.
After Conor O’Neills we told the kids we were going to Mity Nice Italian Ice, but they weren’t setup where they were listed on the map. The kids were disappointed, but a few stops later we were told that due to the uncertainty in the weather they were at the TeaHaus.
By this point, we were starting to get full, but wanted to finish off the crawl so we started taking smaller portions. BDs Mongolian Grill had a buffet setup in the bar area with a few appetizers and two pre-made stir fries. They were offering the opportunity to sit outside. By this time, it was great to sit outside and let the kids have a little more room to explore.
We then headed to Frita Batidos. We were a bit disappointed in this location. They were only offering black bean soup although they had mini mojitos for $4. Since I don’t really care for black bean soup and was pretty full, I skipped the soup. The seating in the restaurant is also quite limited.
We then went to Arbor Brewing Company. They also had a separate room setup with a buffet. They also had a cooler of water and cups so that you could get your own drink. This was a nice touch since it was hard to find a server at some of the restaurants. They had rolls out for barbecue. However, I found the rolls to be a little hard.
Our final stop was at the Tea Haus where Mity Nice was setup. My daughter had been looking forward to both all night, so it was a great way to end the night. I really enjoyed the macaroons and the tea. We were disappointed that Mity Nice was out of their Mango ice which we have enjoyed before.
Overall, it was a late night for a school night (arrived home about 9:10), but we had a great time. I definitely recommend the Grub Crawl.
