Strawberry Picking at Rowe's Produce Farm

Strawberry Picking Review

Yesterday my daughter and I went to Rowe’s Produce Farm to pick strawberries. Rowe’s Produce Farm is located in Ypsilanti.

We had a great picking experience. Strawberries were plentiful – although very low to the ground. I was definitely feeling it in my back last night and my legs today. When you arrive, stop at the main building for your picking containers (I got one for myself and one for my daughter) and directions to the field they are picking from. They had people out to direct us to the field as we were going. The field was not too crowded and the temperature was perfect for picking.

My daughter was very busy looking for the perfect berries that she picked somewhat slowly. However, she was determined to have her container filled like mine so enlisted my help when I had mine filled. Based on our total price, we picked about 11 lbs of berries in less than an hour.

Last night I made a strawberry pie and today my daughter helped me make strawberry jam to can. I still have about half of our berries left and am debating making a second batch of jam or making a strawberry sauce for pancakes, strawberry shortcake, etc.

We are taking advantage of having been able to pick Strawberries since other crops (particularly apples and cherries) will be small to non-existent this year due to the weather conditions. Strawberry season also has the advantage of being before the bugs arrive.

The best way to get to Rowe’s Produce Farm from Ann Arbor is to take I-94 east to the Rawsonville Rd Exit. Head south on Rawsonville Rd until Martz Rd. Turn Right on Martz Rd & Rowe’s Produce Farm will be ahead on your left.

I was excited to see that they have Square on a tablet to accept credit card payments. The one sales clerk had trouble swiping my card, but the other one got it to work on the first try. I definitely like the option to pay with my card since I often don’t carry much cash.

Before going to pick berries, I recommend calling ahead to verify the picking conditions. They also post updates on their Facebook page.
