Event Description

Join authors MacArthur Cotton and John Obee for a conversation about Mississippi’s Black Cotton, a powerful new book highlighting the often-overlooked young Black activists who fueled the civil rights movement. Cotton reflects on risking his life in Mississippi—the era’s most repressive state—and on working alongside leaders like Medgar Evers and Fannie Lou Hamer. He also honors the many unnamed foot soldiers whose courage made change possible. Despite imprisonment, terror, and lasting scars, Cotton’s story is one of resilience and continued activism. This event offers a rare, first-person look at the everyday people who made civil rights history.

This event includes a signing with books for sale.

For teens & adults. Held in 4th Floor Progam Room.
