Bobcat Bonnie's Restaurant Exterior

CLOSED – Bobcat Bonnies – Restaurant Review

CLOSED (October 16, 2024) – Bobcat Bonnie’s is now closed.

We first dined at Bobcat Bonnie’s Ypsilanti as a family in February 2020. Throughout the pandemic, it has been one of our favorite locations for takeout. They have a nice selection of vegan and vegetarian options when we are dining with friends who are vegetarian. My husband and I returned on a date night outdoors.

About Bobcat Bonnies

Dining Locations

Outdoor Dining

Bobcat Bonnie’s has several picnic tables setup next to the restaurant along Washington St. The building provides shade to the tables during dinner – no sun in our eyes, no worries about sun burn or overheating (it was 90 that day). We did experience some road noise from Washington St – particularly one motorcycle with their music cranked at full volume. They have offered igloo dining the last couple of years from the winter. (January 2023 update) If you want to book an igloo, there is a $20 fee for your party (up to 6 guests) and a mandatory 20% gratuity.

Indoor Dining

The indoor dining room at Bobcat Bonnies features numerous tables and a large bar. The dining room tends to be quite loud (based on our experiences from February 2020, picking up takeout, and previously when Bona Sera was in the space). The decor is dark with purples and metallic silver dominating the atmosphere.

Take Out & Delivery

We have gotten take out from Bobcat Bonnie’s many times in the past. They are available on Uber Eats for delivery or pickup. You can also call the restaurant directly with a pickup order. I found it significantly less expensive to place my takeout order by phone. Uber Eats was charging an additional $1 for each menu item compared to the menu prices that I paid by calling in an order. If it was a small order this might be worth the convenience, but I was ordering for a group of 8.

Food

Appetizers

Last year Bobcat Bonnie’s was offering meal deals that included an appetizer and 2 entrees. My daughter and I favored the everything soft pretzels. On this trip we opted for the fried brussels which were quite good. On our first trip, we did an order of Totchos as our appetizer (Totchos are tater tots with topping options).

Entrees

We have enjoyed several sandwiches at Bobcat Bonnie’s. My daughter and I also enjoy their Bowls. On this visit, my husband had the Bobcat Burgers with a side of Tots.

On this trip, I had the Caribbean Shrimp Bowl. I loved the bowl – it was not my first time getting it. I was able to bring almost half of it home for lunch the next day. My daughter has also had the Buddha Bowl (which is vegan) and the Spicy Chicken Bowl. (January 2023 update – They no longer have bowls on their menu. I hope to see them return as they were favorites of ours).

We have also enjoyed the Chicken Avo sandwich, Fish Tacos, and Not Your Average Grilled Cheese. In the large plate section, I tried the Southwest Elote Mac recently and was disappointed.

Kids Menu

The Kids Menu includes items sure to please most kids – Mac & Cheese, Hamburger, Grilled Cheese, Quesadilla, Chicken Tenders, and Fish & Chips. The kids menu does not have gluten free options. The hamburger can be made vegan.

All Kids meals come with a soda and your choice of side – fries, tots, veggies, or fruit.

Desserts

I assumed they had no dessert options because we were brought our check without being asked if we wanted dessert. However, their website does list a dessert menu with cheesecakes, brownie, and vegan carrot cake.

Another great option for desserts is Go! Ice Cream across Washington St.

Overall Thoughts

Bobcat Bonnie’s is one of our favorite restaurants. Several of our friends are vegetarian, so we appreciate the options for both omnivores and vegetarians. The food quality has been consistent, while the menu does vary seasonally. They offer outdoor seating year round. The indoor dining room is on the dark side and does get loud.
