Secret Lab Inventors Series: James West: Desktop Stereo Microphone

Michigan is easing restrictions especially as many people become vaccinated against COVID. We know families have different comfort levels with various activities. Please use your own judgement on whether the event is right for your family. Masks are required for those not fully vaccinated if you are indoors or outdoors when distancing is not possible. We encourage people to continue wearing masks (and do ourselves).

Event Description

AADL is kicking off their new inventors series in the Secret Lab and celebrating Black History Month at the same time! In 1961, while working at Bell Laboratories, James West and Gerhard Sessler invented the electret foil microphone. The electret microphone has been used widely in devices such as telephones, lavalier mics, and more.

At this workshop, you’ll discuss the electret microphone and then make an awesome desktop stereo microphone. This project will take the entire time to complete.

This event is part of AADL’s Black History Month series.

For Teens & Adults. Held in Secret Lab
