SUMMARY:KYLYN Festival | 1893 Cyclone Damage to the Chinese Laundry\, with 
 Linette Lao
DESCRIPTION:\nLinette Lao will present her process in creating a zine about
  the Ypsilanti Chinese Laundry&nbsp\;that was destroyed by a cyclone in th
 e late 19th Century. Through a hands on workshop\, she will showcase why c
 reating a zine was the best method to tell this forgotten story and demons
 trate how attendees can begin creating their own zines.\n\n\n\nLinette Lao
  created Invisible Engines in 2001\, naming it for the unseen desires that
  power us to make things—inspiration\, imagination\, and the impulse to 
 reach out and connect to each other. She has over twenty years of experien
 ce helping nonprofits and foundations build strong connections through str
 ategic and creative communications. Prior to Invisible Engines\, Linette w
 orked as an in-house designer in tech and health startups\, as well as at 
 publications like the Atlanta Jewish Times and Style magazine. She is a ce
 rtified Level C strategist\, a zinemaker\, and a lecturer in the interdisc
 iplinary creative writing program at Eastern Michigan University.\n\n\n\nT
