Event Description

Junior Naturalist is a free nature learning series for youth ages 7- 11. Parks Naturalist Kelsey will lead a hikes and teach nature skills. Kids receive a badge for each completed program and after 4 programs, will be certified as Junior Naturalists and receive a prize.

Super Survival Day

Join naturalists Elle Bogle, Kelsey Dehring, and Shawn Severance for a morning of survivalist fun. Kelsey will instruct participants in how to prepare a proper backpack and what to include for a day trip or a weekend adventure then hike to the woods and learn how to build shelters. Elle will demonstrate what goes into building a fire, how to gather the right materials, and how to correctly build and extinguish it. Shawn will demonstrate cordage making. Space is limited to 18 kids.

This program is free, but vehicle entry to Independence Lake is required ($6/day for county residents, $10/day for non-residents or annual pass – $30/resident, $45/non-resident). Pre-registration is required. To register your child, visit parksonline.ewashtenaw.org.
