Hi – I’m Erin and I work for the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, and contribute to their blog. I keep track of blog alerts about the Museum and noticed your post about your visit.
Thanks for sharing your experience. This is great feedback for us. We already have staff looking into the wifi access problem you mentioned. We’re also looking into ways to open the Museum during hours that are more convenient for visitors – and especially members.
Thanks again. Hope you have a great summer!
I attended Little Boo on Thursday morning; I was somewhat disappointed with the event. A flyer for directions to the treat stations is a nice idea if you aren’t hauling 2 kids in a wagon. They needed more signage. Also, the line for trick-or treating were long even though we arrived right when the zoo opened. The candy was sparse and what was handed out wasn’t even appropriate for toddlers (nerds & snickers???) Also, to get from one treat station to another you had to cut through the auditorium which was blocked by a sound stage, vendors, and a muscian. It was very crowded. They also didn’t have the goats open which is my son’s favorite part of the zoo. It was a real bummer.
Mom2Coy- I am sorry you were somewhat disappointed. From a friend who went to Little Boo it seemed like there were some changes this year from prior years. In the past the treat stations were around the Carnivore Cafe with some activities in the auditorium. Pumpkin Path has more treat stations and I found the signage to be adequate (maybe they are closer together).

Glad to see you finally made it to the zoo!! 🙂 The weather was gorgeous this week. I can’t wait to go and see the new cub sometime this summer. So cute!
Thanks for the review. We live just down the street, so we saw some of the fireworks from our backyard. I was thinking of going tonight to watch the fireworks in the park, but perhaps I will just stay home again and enjoy the show from here! Love your blog!
Laura – if you’re close enough you could walk – It is $2/person, but might be worth a few extra $$ over the $5 parking to walk home. Thanks for the compliment on the blog.
I am glad she has her priorities straight. 🙂

How funny… Believe it or not, I think we were actually there at the same time on Sunday! 🙂
I had a good time, too! It was my first time blueberry picking, and I was surprised how easy it was. I didn’t have to get really dirty, or pricked by bushes, or anything! (I’m a city boy.) And I even told my friend at the time that it would be a great activity for kids!
(This is @BenFranklin1982 from Twitter, by the way!)
I am not sure how to communicate to you on here, but I have to tell you of an event that’s listed on your event calendar that’s not correct. It says that every Wednesday there is a Border’s storytime and craft at Arborland at 630-700pm, but my son and I went there 2 weeks ago and asked the librarian about this during the time it said on this site, and she had no idea what I was talking about. She said there is no storytime at 630 on Wednesdays, and that there should not be incorrect information about events on the website. I think your information is great otherwise and love to be out doing fun events with my 4 year old son. We do almost all the activities and events in and aroudn Ann Arbor. Please just check to see if your information about events is correct on this website before posting it, and remove the 630pm storytime at Borders in Arborland. Thanks!
also I called the downtown Broders to check to see if they had the 100pm storytime on Wednesdays currently running, and the person on the phone said no, there is no 100 Wednesday sotrytime there. The ideas for events are great on your weekly calendar, but please make sure they are correct before entering them on the weekly calender for parents to follow for events for their preschoolers. I hope someone read this and updates the events to current ones. Thank You!
Thank you for letting me know. These events were held at one time and I did not realize they were no longer being held. The Waters Place times had been on the website, but are no longer listed, so I have removed them all.
In my search for preschools, my only issue with this school was that it did not offer a 5-day program.
Again, it seems like most co-op schools in the area only had 2 or 3-day choices.
Amanda – you could potentially place a 4 year old in a 5 day afternoon program at the Saline Coop. The school offers a MWF afternoon program for 4’s and a TTh afternoon program for 3&4 year olds. You could sign up for both. I would encourage you to come to our open house on Feb. 15th and speak with Ms. Bonnie as to how she would work with a child in that situation. Here is our web site for more information: http://www.salinecoop.org/. Thank you for your comment; it is a great idea!
Stone School is a one room historic school house and does not have the ability to have more than one class at a time.
We are going to see the show this Saturday.:)
AnnArbor.com has corrected their article. While elimination of midday kindergarten buses was an option, it was not eliminated.
I will update the post when I get to my computer.
My son attended, too! He was in room 10. He had a great time but I absolutely agree with the parking and Fri. schedule.
Love the new look!! I think this is great and I look forward to continuing to read!Carol
Congrats on your new everything 🙂
A book for the grandparents of all their grandchildren would be great.
I do not know how my comment got to here instead of the Shutterfly post. Sorry, will try again.
I feel full day is better. More time for learning, less disconnect on days with specials, and more social interaction opportunities. If you were not aware, full day was reqiured some years ago, and schools that needed time to restructure had a grace period, but that expired a few years ago and schools not in compliance have had to pay a hefty fine, which means less money for students and salaries. My child was fortunate to go to full day and adjusted very quickly.
Is this the same kiosk as the one at Touch-a-Truck? If so, they did a pretty nice job with the cute (free) photos. Probably took about 15 minutes to get through it and te volunteer employees were super friendly.
It was corn maze 1, not 2.
Our favorite is brocolli. My kids can’t get enough
Excellent you all must visit
Thank you for the review. We decided to go to Kerrytown after thinking the mall would be too busy. Kerrytown celebration was outdoors which made the crafts difficult to do. They did send home bags with crafts to do later. They did do a marshmallow roast which my kids 9 and 5 did enjoy. We did not stay for long as it was just too chilly. We ended up going to the Tea Haus which is always a good time.
If the schools go over the allotted days…they can opt to add time to the school days to make up missed time.
I’m not sold on the new Ninja Turtles movie. Before you tar and feather me, let me tell you a short story.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has to be the most successful parody in American culture. If you’re interested enough to read this, you probably already know that TMNT was originally conceived by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman as a single-issue spoof of popular 1980’s comics like Daredevil
We had passes for Dinosaurs Alive as well, but it was me and two guy friends my age (mid-to-late 20s) so we were not interested in that – it sounds cool though. (we did more of the haunted Halloweekends stuff instead, and the coasters)
Glad you go to go back!
It was definitely more of a kid thing. We had done most of what we wanted and were walking by. Definitely an added bonus for the kids who aren’t as into the rides as my daughter
my daughter learned a Mozart piece on violin and she is enjoy it
My favorite composer is Mozart. Never seen a show – can’t wait!
I love anything with cello 🙂
Can’t go wrong with Mozart
We enjoyed the around the world performance.
I love them
I love them . I have yet too go with my youngest.
Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is a favorite. We are new to town so we’ve never been to an A2SO event.
Welcome to Ann Arbor! We love living here.
I’d love to chat with you sometime about your blog. I started KZOOkids.com with the help of Melody from grkids.com and am always looking for other local friends to connect with.
Have a super day!
Jill – I friended you on Facebook. I’d love to talk sometime.
Do you plan to replace your smoke detector with smoke and carbon monoxide detector? It is a combo type and provides more functions for you. It is much better since it will also detect carbon monoxide instead of only smoke.
You know that carbon monoxide is poison gas and can kill you in almost no times.
And to make sure that such detector will always work, try to purchase one with dual power or battery back up. So, it will be no interruption even though in power outage.
Have you considered this replacement?
I replaced some of ours with combo units. Not the ones in unoccupied bedrooms or in areas where carbon monoxide detectors are not advised. They all have a battery backup.
My name is Nadine Hariri and I am the editor of the local publication, Ann Arbor Family. I am subscribed to your blog and always look forward to the seeing the fun events you are posting about. We’d love to include a link to your blog on our website as an expert in AA events for parents. Please let me know if you’re interested!
Nov 6?? Weeks before thanksgiving?Sorry that’s just wrong. I hope parents don’t support this ever backwards Christmas commercialism creep.
I’m just the messenger. Three years ago, we attended on Nov 11.
Looks amazing – I love Italian Food – I will have to check Bravo out with my husband soon!
I was bummed to not be able to make this event…I may have drooled a bit admiring the bisque and your hubby’s entree 😉 YUM! I’ll have to check it out next time I’m in A2. Glad you two got to have a little day date – how fun!
I love Lobster Bisque so if they have good soup you already have me sold! Thanks for the nice review
Much yumminess here :). I work next to Somerset mall in Troy and we have Brio, which I think is Bravo’s sister restaurant. I’ve been to Bravo once or twice though. Make sure to sign up for their email club too to get a free meal during your birthday month!
Looks like a ton of fun and super yummy!
I love love love Bravos! We have one here in the East Lansing area. Their food is amazing!
Please consider the Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation for next year’s shout-out. We fund teacher grants and District-wide initiatives. Thank you.
Thanks for letting me know about AAPSEF. I don’t think I was really aware of it. I don’t think I’ve heard much about it through my daughter’s school (3rd grade in AAPS).
Those are really nice Anna Mae!
Thanks. I had to crop your kid out of last year’s picture :).
I’ve taken several of my nieces to family events at the symphony, and they loved the events. When they were younger, I brought along earplugs just in case the noise bothered them, and they enjoyed dressing up and attending a “grown-up” event. I’ll be on the lookout for this event next year!
Keep an eye out for their March Family Concert (Sunday, March 22 it has a Disney theme!
That’s cool that you can vote for the movie lineup. I wish they didn’t do them on Sunday nights, if they did them Fri or Sat I’d be more apt to drive in and stay over at my A2 friend’s apartment.
They usually do some fun bands/musicians that I do drive in for, though.
As for location, I didn’t really think about the traffic but your points are valid – North U is more heavily trafficked then Washington.
I agree on all the weeknights for the movie. Even being a townie it’s hard to do them – especially with a 9 year old & when they pick movies like The Hobbit (on last year’s list).
I probably worry more about the traffic since I drive around town more often.
OMG, chocolate raspberry wontons?! That sounds amazing.
My go-to meal at PF Changs is the chicken lettuce wraps plus the honey chicken. I like the sesame chicken too but it’s a little spicy, and the cashew/almond chicken also. That reminds me, they just sent me a free app/dessert coupon for my birthday so I’m going to head to the Troy location to get myself some lettuce wraps to go sometime soon :).
My favorite location is actually the Northville one though.
🙁 I can’t eat the lettuce wraps at PF Chang’s since they have mushrooms. I usually love lettuce wraps.
Oh my goodness, that Flat bread looks wonderful. It all looks wonderful. We haven’t been to Olive Garden in ages. I’m so glad I saw this post. I’m thinking we might have to go over the weekend. Yum!
Love the foods! That Spicy Calabrian wings looks really delicious 🙂
I have to admit that Chelsea does an amazing job of getting rows plowed quickly and effectively. Our roads were very clear by Monday morning.
This looks AWESOME! I love board games, and I own the Harry Potter one (and kick butt at it) so I totally agree it should cover all the books.
We love having game nights with our family and friends, and I can see where this would be a great option because I am especially guilty of being ‘connected’ still while we’re playing. Very cool!
I love that it’s a no electronic zone. I think that’s great to give your child lots of one on one time.
I had NO idea a place like this existed! Such a cool idea and a great way to have fun with the kiddos over winter.
Pretty unique concept! Never seen or head establishments like this one before. Great job to the owners!
Hi there! Ran across your account & wondered if you were open to affiliate advertising opportunities through Impact Radius. Our program, Sittercity, is America’s largest and most trusted site for matching parents with local house sitters, pet sitters, and senior care providers.
Jenn-I was formerly with Sittercity through ShareASale, but never had much interest.
Do you know if these free movies are baby friendly? Meaning, is it the type of event that babies and kids can make occasional noise and it is not a big deal?
The movies are marketed to families. We haven’t been in a few years, but as a preschooler my daughter would often laugh loudly or exclaim during the movie (heck, she still does that sometimes at 9). It was not out of place. A baby crying should still be taken out to the hall. I also remember them having an intermission even in a 90 minute cartoon. The intermission actually worked against my daughter because it would take her out of the movie & then she had a hard time settling back down.
We went to the 10am movie on Sunday with our 4 year old, 2 year old, and 3 month old. My 3 month old made the occasional noise, cried a bit, and nursed throughout most of the movie. We also saw other infants in carseats being carried in. It’s definitely family friendly!
One more thing — the intermission that the previous person mentioned no longer happens. They play the movie from beginning to end like any other movie.
Thanks for sharing your pizza places! I am not from Ann Arbor, but have a trip planned to visit soon and it is nice to have a local’s perspective.
I haven’t been to Disney World or the other parks since 2000. I’m sure a lot has changed. I see a lot of people on FB talk about Butter beer. I thought it was beer. Glad you all enjoyed Diagon Alley. It sounds like fun.
Yes, things have definitely changed at both Universal and Disney since 2000.
We had so much fun when we went but I’m slightly bummed their wands just sit in the boxes. How was the weather?
First day was rainy (check out the poncho in the Hogwarts Express pics), but at 67 it was more than 70 degrees warmer than the previous morning at home. The rest of our trip was mostly in the 80s until the night before we flew home when it dropped to the 50s at night and low 60s the day we left.
Plus the rain the first day (Saturday) helped keep some locals home most of the rides are indoors so it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Looks like it was a fun and long trip. We haven’t been to Disney in about 7 years. They have so many new things there now.
Hey Anna Mae, I work with Kim McIntire from Pittsfield Parks and Recreation. We are trying to get a hold of you but your email doesn’t seem to be working. We keep getting the email kicked back to us. We would love to talk about some of the sponsored posts!
I love the idea of a viewing party!! I need to get caught up on some of these before the movie comes out!
Looks like you got a great variety of Marvel products in your package and what a great giveaway for your readers. Them snacks look pretty yummy too!
I love it! I am SO excited for the new Avengers movie, I am a complete and total Marvel movie buff! I can’t wait to see it
Super cute! I definitely entered the contest too since I don’t own The Avengers. I’m seeing it next Tues in Livonia, very excited for it.
PS: I like the new blog design!
PPS: when I tried to pin the pic, it said “blocked because it may lead to spam’ … no idea why. :-/ also your tweet thing doesn’t have a link to this post.
I couldn’t pin the pin. I received the same quote “may lead to spam”.
My husband has been collecting Captain America stuff since he was in diapers. He would love everything you have!
VERY cool! I’m glad everything isn’t just re-painted pink like so many manufacturers have a tendency to do. Rock on, girls who love Avengers!
My daughter Faith loves super heroes. She will be seeing Avengers opening weekend.
Thats a girl with some good taste! My husband is a Captain America fan since he was probably still in the womb thanks to his dad. He has a man cave thats red and blue and full of CA collectibles. Kiddo enjoys it because her dad does so we have fun with it.
I love that Avengers lego set! Would love to have it with my kids. Awesome collectibles for sure.
That game looks like so much fun! Girls are totally superheroes too, I love that your daughter loves to play with them also! #client
How fun! We have a large comic book store in our neighborhood that goes all out. We enjoy Star wars day every year.
This sounds like a lot of fun. Love the cake!!!
The dip looks so good. My cheat meal is tomorrow. Chocolate, junk food, here I come!
My daughters like the origami Yoda books, too. Great ideas, have fun celebrating.
We have If You Give A Pig A Pancake. It’s very cute! I’d love to take my 4-year-old daughter to this!
Looks fun!! I have never been to the Performance Network! Seems like a great time to go!
This looks like so much fun! My son loves those books!
My kids love these books! I entered the contest! Good luck to everyone who threw their name into the hat.
This show looks so cute. The same company is doing the Detroit show but it’s at City Theatre, downtown.
Good luck to all participants. Looks like a great event that kids and adults will surely love!
Sounds like a fun show. I’m not sure if my youngest is too old.
I’m all about the classics – so the Give a Mouse a Cookie is the best, but I also liked the Moose and muffin one 🙂
My daughter would have a blast at this performance! Fun!
I didn’t know that Ken Jennings wrote books. That’s pretty cool!
Great list of books. My oldest is a little older than your daughter, but I’ll have to see if he would like any of these books.
Does he have any to add to the list?
Fun list! My second-grader will surely be there soon. I’ll have to remember the book that’s the basis for the Home movie – she’s been asking to see that 🙂
Check out the Young Royal Diaries series it’s great for that age range and a little higher!
My third grader loves Diary of a Wimpy Kid. She has been OBESESSED with reading Anne Frank and asks me really depressing questions. It breaks my heart but I know it’s good for her to read it.
Thanks for your lovely article about the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History! So glad you and your daughter had fun.
Assistant Director for Education (and I was staff on Sunday and met you briefly)
We love the Rutherford Pool in Ypsilanti. They have great lifeguards and swim lessons as well. Here is a link to their website :http://forpool.org/
How I wish I can visit parks like this. I always dreamed of doing activities like this as a young kid. For sure you guys had an awesome time in here.
LOL on the hockey references making you angry 😉
You brought up a great point about Riley not being overly girly. I appreciated that too as a mom on non girly girls!
Looks great (minus the strawberries, I am not a fan, lol) maybe I could use blueberries or bananas.
I was hoping to get blueberries too. The Farmers Market shared a photo that they had blueberries that morning, but by the time we got to the market they were gone.
Also Hy 5 Wheel and Merry Go Round are there for a total of 18 rides.
Correction. Boomers Ball Park – I see Carousel = Merry Go Round 🙂
Also, bring plenty of water with you when you go berry picking! It’s hard to find shade out there on the farm, so you’ll thank me later!
I would bring my kiddos
I am coming to your tailgating party!! How fun! #client
FUMCN has a free playground for Twos that meets every monday at 120 S. State Street in Downtown Ann Arbor at 9:30am that runs along with the school year (Sept-May). Come check us out or email us at membership [at] fumcnpreschool.org for more information!!
My son did this at the Take Your Child To Work event at my husband’s work this past year. They had a blast creating their containers and my son’s creation was one of the only ones that was successful out of all of the other kids creations (he was the youngest out of 30 kids!). Such a great way to get them to think outside the box. #client
That’s so awesome that your son was successful. I use a relatively low drop height and onto mulch so the odds were in their favor. My driveway is too sloped for safe ladder usage.
Thanks for the mention! Preschoolers love parties in Kids Town – our special gallery just for those 2-5!
I’m honored to be the only UK blogger in your post! It’s beautiful here in the fall. We call it ‘autumn’. I love to learn about what other families enjoy doing around the world so I will enjoy following the links in this post to check out the other bloggers.
Apple picking is a great weekend activity for the kids, and having a corn maze is just an added bonus!
How fun that you created games for your kids to play around Thanksgiving! I love your pie smoothie recipe, too! [client]
Great review. Love reading your daughter’s thoughts — I was wondering what she thought about it! You’re right that it could’ve used a few more comedy interludes to off-set the serious tone. Hope you guys have a great T-Giving 🙂
I liked reading what you had to say from a younger kid perspective. I know at 5 my fighter would have been entranced by the Dino’s alone.
Come to Dexter! The story time on 12/22 will feature a live reindeer although I’m sure your readers will want to know about that one beforehand. All the town decorations are up & there seem to be some fun kids events planned (Holiday Hustle, Luminaries, Letter to Santa Mailbox on Main, etc)…
Cool and cute
I am interessted in your ‘mommy and me ‘ Class. Do you have a differnent time Or maybe differnent Place to do that?
Monday in to late for me.
You are free to contact Peachy Fitness directly (peachy fitness.com). Ann Arbor with Kids just lists the events.
This looks like a great event! In the Green Spirit I wanted to let all of you know that you can recycle old phones and other devices at any Genius Phone Repair for no charge! Old electronics are becoming a problem in landfills and we are happy to be able to help by offering a free recycling spot! You can drop off your phones at any of our two Ann Arbor locations: http://www.geniusphonerepair.com/locations.php
Let’s Keep Ann Arbor Green!
Elmo’s Birthday Party
Saturday, January 30, 2016
3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
YDL-Michigan Program Room (downstairs)
Celebrate Elmo’s birthday with stories, cake, and crafts!
WOW! Thanks for writing about this. I had no idea about the aquarium!
It opened spring 2015.
How much for yearly membership?
You would have to contact Romulus Athletic Center. This post is about a Groupon deal that was offered in 2013.
Washtenaw Christian Academy is having an open house on February 25th. I’ve loved sending my daughter there for preschool!
Thank you. I just added it to the calendar. Do you have a contact at the school so I can discuss options for listing in our upcoming preschool and school guide?
I would contact Amy Houpt the Elementary Principal and Preschool Director (email@example.com).
Just a quick question: If you were to estimate how long the concert typically lasts, what would be your best guess? Trying to gauge length for bringing a younger child. Thanks!
They Family Concerts are usually about an hour. My experience is that there are a number of younger children.
Thank you very much. That’s very helpful. We look forward to going for the first time in March.
(Minecraft) A sensation, and rightly so. This is a game that makes you both happy and creative. This is pretty cool because the kids are having fun and learning at the same time. I bet the kids really enjoyed it.
Please check out our updated February schedule on our website at http://fitpointa2.com/schedule/#february since some of our class times have changed.
You can always call or email us for more information!
We were here today with kids (boys and girls) from 3 yo up to 8 yo and everyone of them had a LOT of fun. They were busy with all different entertained areas and finally showed us small performance on the stage. Great clean place. Open concept – enough space for kids to play and for parents to sit on coach or chair and observing. Very friendly and helpful customer service. Convenient location (on the right side from 94 Highway toward Costco). Big enough parking lot. We were able to bring our own snack. There is clean restroom. Kids were able to be in their street shoes, but I I would advise to have shoes/slippers to use inside. Definitely, on my top of list for snowy/rainy/too hot day to do.
I agree with you in that it’s for older kids. That being said I am an “older kid” 😉 and loved it.
And adults…I may have left that part off.
I took my 6 year old to see this because at Disneyland they showed us a preview of it and it looked awesome! It was a good movie but definitely not something for the youngsters, I even jumped at a couple spots and now my daughter is scared to go to sleep and has banned herself from movies till she’s 15. Upset for my kiddo but I loved it…
Thanks for the giveaway! We love Pinkalicous.
My girls are 3 and 5 and would love this! They’re big Pinkalicious fans.
We took our preschooler who REALLY wanted to see it after seeing the trailers so much. She stayed focused the whole time and loved it EXCEPT the scary scenes ended up being too intense (I too was on the edge of my seat). She rarely has been scared of things, and didn’t seem scared while watching, but she was up all night with nightmares that day. I feel so sorry I didn’t read this review earlier. She’s okay now, but we really should have waited. Otherwise it is a fantastic film, which touches upon some big, important concepts. I loved it (as an adult).
Would love to win Pinkalicious tickets! My girls are four and almost six and the show is right before the oldest one’s bday – would be perfect!
Thanks for the giveaway! My daughter would love to go.
i would love to take my daughter for her 4th birthday!
Sounds like a great show.
This is great! My kids love Pinkalicious
Would love to take my 6 year old for her birthday! She likes “Tutu-riffic” 🙂
This sounds so fun!
My 5yo son loves Pinkalicious. This would make his day!
I too took my 6 year old daughter. I was a little surprised at the stark difference between the lightness of the trailers and the darkness of the movie. I didn’t notice how scared she was at the time (although she watched from my lap for some of it) but she was scared during the daytime afterwards! She has never been scared of other movies before despite some scary scenes. Also she really couldn’t follow the story with it’s numerous plot twists and adult themes. Every other film she has seen she has wanted to watch again but she specifically said she doesn’t want to watch it ever again until she is ‘grown’. In saying that I loved it. But I would suggest 8 or 9YO and up.
My girls have always wanted to see a professional show!! They would love this.
Be Our Guest
We also like to sing-along with “Be Our Guest.”
I love Be Our Guest as well!
I think I watched this movie everyday as a little girl ? I know all the songs. I’d love to take my two little boys!
I love Be Our Guest as well. My daughter would love the show!!
My daughter would love to see the live show.
we would love to see the show!!
Excited about this show & two little girls that would be dying to see it!!
I saw this on Broadway as a teenager and it’s wonderful. It would be amazing to be able to share it with my girls!
I love “Beauty and the Beast” theme song at the end of the movie.
My favorite song the theme song, Beauty and the Beast
The Beauty and the Beast theme song is the best, hands down
Excited about this!
I would be great to go see this play.
I love the song where she says there must be more than this provincial life (Provincial Life? Not sure of the exact title).
Be our guest is the best song we can get down to in our house!
Beauty and the Beast
My daughter’s favorite princess is Belle, I know she’d freak out over this! It looked old wonderful.
*meant looks so wonderful! ?
My daughter would love this
My favorite Beauty and the Beast song is “Something there that wasn’t there before”. Would love these tickets!!
be our guest!
My favorite song from Beauty and the Beast is “Tale as Old as Time.” My children would love to watch the play with me.
Thanks for the review, Anna Mae! I try to go once per summer with friends. I’m glad they have red straps for larger guests, too – I’m a little bigger than I usually am (trying to lose weight, currently) and some of the older rides are hard to squeeze into; Gatekeeper, which I love, was hard as well last summer.
I don’t think I’ve ever been on a dive coaster either. Looking forward to trying Valravn out!
I’m not small either and noticed a difference the one time I was in the red strap seat. The seat itself is the same size, it’s just how much they have to squish you down.
We would like to advertise our local youth soccer club, MPSA Crush, on your site.
I did not find any info about pricing.
I did sign up for your business newsletter.
Please let me know if I need to do anything else.
I just sent you an email with pricing.
Thanks for trailer. Movie coming soon, soon, soon! Can’t wait! 🙂
Thanks for the blog post – we have heard feedback about the rides and are working with Skerbeck to give all ages a better experience! Love your video, we shared this post on our Facebook page and the Event page.
YES! Its that time of year again! Love Ann Arbors Restaurant Week. Time to load the kids up and go enjoy some awesome deals and great tasting food! Nice post here keep up the great work.
Veteran’s pool is closed until further notice due to a problem with its filtration system.
I’ve updated the Tot Splash event at Vets Park to list as Cancelled. I have shared news of the closing on Facebook and mentioned it in the Father’s Day post, but I hadn’t thought about the Tot Splash events which started today. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll update once the pool is opened.
I’m with the Michigan Secretary of State’s office and I wanted to give you and your readers a heads-up that the Secretary of State has relaunched the Michigan Child Protection Registry. It allows parents to register cell phones, email addresses and Instant Messenger IDs to keep kids from seeing ads for alcohol, tobacco, gambling and pornography. The website is http://www.protectmichild.com and if you have any questions or want more information you are welcome to email me. Thanks!
enjoy going here with my kids c
Their rice krispie treats are VERY tasty so you should give them another try sometime :). Are you allergic to mushrooms? (but not shiitake?) Mushrooms are my fave so that would be hard for me.
Not allergic, but definitely an unhappy digestive system. The shiitake don’t bother me.
I want to try the Pesto Cavatappi.
It’s good. I’ve had it minus the mushrooms.
I’d try the Pad Thai – I’m curious to know how the new recipe tastes!
This place has awesome Burt Ends! My 3 year old daughter loves the pulled pork and mac&cheese. Red Rock is a must try BBQ joint in the Ann Arbor area! Enjoyed many times and always great food!
FYI: The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra is moving to the below address on 6/30/2016.
35 Research Drive, Suite 100
Ann Arbor, MI 48103
We just went there in May and really enjoyed it. My kids loved the boat ride. My pictures look almost identical to yours ?
I’m originally from Danville, PA, and spent my summers at Knoebel’s! I loved seeing this post. <3
We were just at the UM Museum of Natural History last week and I wanted to point out that it is not air-conditioned. It wasn’t too bad in there because they have large fans setup, but only the planetarium has A/C.
Thanks, I guess I just assumed it would be to protect the collections. I’m pretty sure the Kelsey & Art Museum are.
This looks like a ton of fun! My son would love it!!
My kids are big Thomas the Train fans, they would love this!
My daughter loves Rosie – but of course her favorite is Thomas!
My daughters love Emily.
Thanks for sharing. This will be a great day trip!
My son loves Henry!
This would be amazing for our family!
My son loves James and we would love to see Thomas!
My grandson loves Percy and James!
Thank you so much for the chance to win tickets, my boys would have a blast!
We love Sir Tophamhat!
My three year old would love this! As would my 6 year old! I’m not even sure they have a favorite character, but seeing a real life Thomas would make them glow!
What age group would you recommend? My daughter is 3. Would she be too little to enjoy?
3 should be fine. There were plenty of little kids there. There’s a whole Little Kids section that we skipped.
Impressive. Glad you compiled this info. Thanks.
We are having a Story Time featuring an experienced teacher at Ten thousand Villages on August 22 at 10:30am featuring our unique recycled products with a story that relates to the product or country. We hope to make this a regular event in our store on Monday mornings beginning in September. We hope the Ann Arbor Kids followers will support our kick off event!
Great event and solid system for entries on this site.
How big are the people that fit into the red strap…. I am still thinking that I might be too big, I have a 48 inch waist but my butt is bigger…. (I am hippy) let me know I go on Friday.
I’m not sure it’ll work. I wear a women’s 18-20 & it was tight in the regular seat, but I’ve got a stomach. I’m pretty sure they have a test seat out in front.
sir topm hat and the deiesel
The August 30 event at Angell school is a “Kindergarten and ‘New to Angell’ Family Picnic Social” followed by an orientation — not just an “Incoming Kindergarten Picnic”. (We’re new to the school and looking forward to this!)
Thanks. I’ve updated it. It was listed on the school’s webpage as just for kindergarteners, but the PTO lists it as for all incoming families.
I haven’t introduced AG to my kids yet, but my favorite was always Molly. But I read them ALL and loved every single one. *I* can’t wait to read these books, and maybe I will share them too 😉
Molly was my daughter’s favorite too. She came home from Kindergarten with all the info on the dolls. American Girl was after my time, so it was all new to me.
I don’t have kids but my little sister loved Addy’s books!
Here’s a photo of the adorably-named HopKittens menu: https://goo.gl/photos/PF9FGcu1sA1HXFsR9
I love the name!
I’m wondering, do you have info on Pittsfield?
My apologies. I somehow missed them. I couldn’t find any details on a before school event, but I have added the Curriculum Night (September 20)
My daughter’s favorite American Girl is Lea Clark.
Thank you for this post! I am taking my almost 3 year old to his first game next week and I haven’t been to a game myself in 10 years! This information is really helpful. The no bag policy is crazy. Also no bottles seems like it would be impossible to bring a baby if you are a bottle feeding mom. It has certainly changed since I went as a kid! Thanks again!
I would think that baby bottles would be considered medically necessary and permitted. I know I brought a water bottle in 2 years ago. It must have been listed as permitted since I would not have risked having to toss it or walking back to the car.
I liked the look of it from the trailer, but a lot of those jokes are in the first ten minutes…it’s a shame, really. My fault for watching trailers! Actually the adventure stuff isn’t terrible, it’s just that it hits that note from about 15 minutes and stays on it to 1 hr 20 or so. But kids like it, and there are some good moments therein.
What was your favorite thing that happened today? Why was it your favorite? What was your worst?
Halloween Science Fun Day for youth 4-10 years of age, Sunday, October 16 and 23 (will be canceled, if raining), starting at the Botanical Gardens and with clues, a road trip will bring around the area, integrating math/science, Halloween Fun, and prizes.

It’s a tie between Pete the Cat and Daniel Tiger. My girls would LOVE both!
The Daniel Tiger. My son would love that.
My daughter is a theater kid! We would love to win this : )
Sounds like fun – it looks like it’s better to attend early in the season, then, so it’s less cold out! I’m not an ice skater either – I tried in my UM days but was always bad at it, lol.
Yes, but they have lots of fires and you go in and out of buildings, so it isn’t too bad.
Is the senior season pass the same cost as youth? $115 resident?
Yes, a senior pass is listed as being the same as a youth pass.
Looking for more information on for my public Relations class
My Urban toddler Saline and Jungle Java Ann Arbor are closed
My family LOVES Olga’s and we would definitely use the gift card! Thanks for the chance!

What Kids workshops or events are planned for the New Year? Thank You.
They haven’t announced any 2017 events yet. Keep checking their website here: http://lowesbuildandgrow.com
I haven’t seen an official announcement, but I’ve heard that the Build & Grow Workshops are no longer being offered.
We love Sesame Street Live. My husband and I would love to take our two boys.
I hope my little one gets to see Elmo!
We love it! I have been taking my grandkids to Sesame Street for 8 years now! We are now up to 6 grandkids 8 and under and about to add #7 in January 2017. Plan on going again this year! Thanks for the chance to win!

My oldest loves cookie monster and my youngest loves Elmo. 🙂
We love Grover in our family! Our freshly minted 3yo would love to see it!
My son would LOVE this!
My daughter loves elmo!
My girls love the classic – Elmo!
Is Elmo classic? I think of Big Bird, Grover, Cookie Monster, Oscar, Bert, Ernie, the Count, etc – the ones I grew up with as the classic.
Ok, I did some research & he was around since the early 70s, as a background character called Baby Monster. He became Elmo with his personality & started being a focus character in 1984.
This would be FABULOUS to take my son and his best friend with his mom. Great giveaway!
I love Annie and all the songs but one of my favorites is “Maybe”. 🙂
We are Hard Knock Lifers.
Really hoping we win!!!
I would love to take my little ones to see their favorite movie come alive on stage! Hard knock life is definitely their favorite!

I’m bummed that I didn’t make it. It looks like you girls had a blast.
Thanks for the chance to win, my boys would have a blast!!!
Hopefully I win! Fingers crossed.
I haven’t seen them live and I would take my husband.
Are you allowed to bring snacks/drinks with you in a bag for the kids? Or do they not allow bags?
Als0- will today (MLK day) be very busy? Anyone have experience with this?
I’m not positive, but I think you’ll be able to bring snacks/drinks. I know we’ve bought food inside the show before.
I’d expect MLK Day to be less crowded than a weekend, but more crowded than a typical weekday. Parking may also be tricky with some lots that open on weekends only available to monthly pass holders, but increased crowds compared to a typical weekday.
We’ve never seen them but it’s definitely on the bucket list. My daughter would be all about it.
What a great outing for the kids- and so close to home!
I think Tomorrow might be my favorite song, but Kathy was singing “Lets go to the Movies” the other day. It was adorable!
My boys would love this!
My 10 year old who is playing basketball through Ann Arbor Rec and Ed would find this show as amazingly fun!!! Hope this will motivate him to practice more!
Looks fun to take my son!
Thank you for this giveaway! Annie was my favorite growing up and I’ll love to introduce my daughter to the live performance! 🙂
The Early Learning Center link goes to a Lutheran preschool in South Dakota. The local preschool is .com rather than .org
Thanks for compiling this information!
Thanks for catching that. I’ve updated the link.
My husband and daughter would love this.
My kids would LOVE this. And it is the weekend of both their birthdays!
I didn’t know this show was happening but I’m glad i came across this post! My son would love to go!
My daughter and I have watched this movie so many times. Our favorite song is “I think I’m gonna like it here.”
Tomorrow is my favorite song. Looking to take my niece and nephews.
Oooh this would be so fun!
No, we haven’t ever been to an A2SO concert. Would love to check it out.
Looks like fun!
Would love to win!!
Our kids are now old enough to go to a concert, and this looks like a great one!
Looks awesome! Never been!
We have never been, but would love to make this our first show!
We’ve gone to the A2SO Disney concert for the past two years and it’s been fantastic! I would love to go to this one!
Love A2SO’s children’s program. Exposure to music and instruments at any age is so important
Never been to an A2SO concert before, but been to many other symphony orchestras. Would love to check out one geared towards kids!
Have listened to the CD for many years with the kids but it will be so cool to hear the piece in live!
This sounds like a great concert!

We have never been, but would love to change that!

This would be awesome!
Long time lover of the site, first time poster. Thanks for keeping us all in the loop! 🙂
Sounds like it will be a great show!

They’re getting pretty serious with the HDMI cables now huh?
I loved this movie as a kid, I would love to take my own children!
My 11 year old would love this too!
So fun! We loved the Christmas tree fire episode.
Thanks for sharing. Would lobe the opportunity to attend.
This would be a great experience!
Red Rock is a must try BBQ joint in the Ann Arbor area! I go there atleast once in 2 weeks and never have I been disappointed! Great ambiance and great food!
do you have summer 2017 schedule for camps yet?
Listening to Peter & the Wolf in my elementary school music class was very influential to me. The sound of the wolf led me to choose the French Horn as my first (post-recorder) school instrument!
I am looking for details on weeks that are available for summer camp mentioned above. Can you help with this?
I am working on the 2017 camp updates.
Such a great film! I agree that I am so happy they kept it a musical.
Love that your daughter is reading Hunger Games too 🙂
So excited to see this!
I would take my daughter. We have the Pinkalicious cupcake book. We have tried a few recipes.
My daughter would love this so much!!! *Fingers crossed*
I would love to take my daughters to see this! They love all the Pinkalicious books! Pink cupcakes – yum!
Thanks for coming to our event in Ann Arbor. We love the video and photos you took.
I wanted to let you know of an event coming up Monday that your readers or perhaps even you may be interested in, even though it’s in East Lansing. Despite the distance, the message still resonates.
We are hosting an oral cancer awareness event on Monday on Michigan State University’s campus at the Union. From noon to 1 p.m., attendees will be able to receive a free oral cancer screening, win prizes and learn more about taking care of their oral and overall health.
We are focused on bringing oral cancer awareness to all, but specifically the college age population and to those who regularly engage in behaviors that can lead to oral cancer—like drinking, smoking and HPV.
Here is the event registration page, if you’d like to share with your readership. http://go.pardot.com/l/147421/2017-03-24/23bjlb
My son’s favorite is Thomas! He would absolutely love this!
I have never been to Greenfield Village but the Day out with Thomas sounds like a fun time, especially with a soon to be 3 year old boy.
always enjoy just a walk around seeing the old locomotives
My daughter and nice would love to see this both Pinkalicious crazy.
My kiddos would love this. It would be a great adventure for them. Thanks for the chance to win. 🙂
My son loves all things Thomas. He also loves Oliver.
My kids love Emily and Gordon
Thomas himself. Thanks!
My kids love Percy as well. Great to see they have a sensory friendly event now! Two of my kids have autism and we had to leave the event twice last year and almost missed our ride. This is great news.
My daughter also loves Percy. She would love to Thomas the Train!
So exciting! It will the first time for my 5 yr. old.
My kids love Toby the tramcar (?).
Toby was one of my daughter’s favorites – after Harold the helicopter.
Hello, please e-mail me cost to advertise our upcoming mom expo thank you.
I just sent you details. If you don’t receive it let me know. I am on hotel wifi which is a bit unreliable.
Hope my guys win the tickets, they would be soooooo excited!!
This is an awesome giveaway. Both of my nephews will be excited to ride!

Does it still go on in the event of rain?
Good question. I just posted a question on their Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/370777559987767/?active_tab=discussion
Awesome! Kids would love it
Would love this!
Looks like a cute show!
This is great information. I was looking for information on AAPS Kindergarten enrollment and after school care while I bumped into your page. Please continue to update this page. This is a very handy resource.
We’ll have an all new back to school page this year. I try to delay back to school until August, but we’ll see when information is available.
My child a big fan of the Cars movies! And we are waiting Cars3!!!
The TinkerLab program at Ypsilanti District Library, Michigan Avenue branch – is incorrectly listed as Tuesdays at 11 am. The correct time is actually Tuesdays at 2 pm. Please change the listing. This is a permanent change, for all Tuesdays going forward. It is not at 11 am. Thank you!
Thanks. I have fixed that. It looks like it was an error on my part.
Great event activation and what a fun way to continue to teach our kids the wonders of science. Would love to take my girl-scientist and her dad to the show.
This looks like something my son would love.
Watching my daughter dance, wild and free. There’s a great community feeling and the kids’ tent is fun too!
Looks like fun. Would a science loving four year old enjoy this?
They say it’s for all ages, but specifically geared to 6-16. I’d show your 4 yr old the video & see how they do.
This looks like so much fun! What a great addition to the Ann Arbor Summer Festival
My son would love to see both shows! He loves science and his uncle will be visiting then too….would be a fun family outing.
relaxing watching a movie with my kids
Spending time enjoying summer evenings.
Great idea! Thanks!
Summer evenings with music and friends and fun things to do. What could be better?
Fuller Park playground is one of our favorites. My son really likes the nature path behind the playground. It is small enough that I will let him explore on his own.
Loooks so fun! Would love to go!!
Always looking for fun events to take my kids to around town. Top of the park is always great when the weather behaves. Would be great to be one of the dad’s at this fantastic show
What a wonderful idea. I think my family would love this.
What a fantastic way to spend Father’s Day! Top of the Park is an Ann Arbor must see. Doktor Kaboom is the perfect family favorite!
I haven’t ever been to Summer Fest. Sounded like the perfect way for my family to try it!
We love the kids programming at a2sf!
For next year include information in the Memorial Day ceremony at Arborcrest cemetery. It actually is on Sunday at 2pm.
I agree with your review – I thought it was good, but not EPIC. I too want to know how she hasn’t aged!
Suicide Squad was good by the way but I know most critics hated it.
The biggest problem was it was too long. I felt like the Themyscira portion could have been covered in half the time. And there was more slow points at the end of the movie.
I’ll have to see if Suicide Squad is on Netflix or Amazon.
I think Common Sense Media has it about right — it’s appropriate for ages 12+. I’m a bit surprised that some people think it’s OK for 10 year-olds, much less younger.
There’s a lot of death, a lot of bodies, both soldiers fighting each other and civilian victims of a weapon of mass destruction. And there’s one killing of a group of people that’s done in a sadistic manner.
As an adult I thought the movie was OK, but far short of being epic or even just awesome.
I love that it features a woman hero, who’s both powerful and determined to do good. And for those reasons I’d love to be able to recommend it for younger kids. But the violence is just too much..
And for those of you who are wondering why she doesn’t age over a 100 years, the answer is given in the movie — “only a _ can _ a _”. I left out the key words so as not to spoil it. But the answer lies in that first blank.
She’s a God. That’s why she hasn’t aged. I loved it. I thought it was done well!
Another Ann Arbor organic U=pick strawberry farm.
Those are such a fun things to do with the kids. I can’t wait to watch Cars either with the family.
I feel very old that my childhood is now being labeled as “vintage,’ lol. In the 90s we had TV and later the internet, but you had to be inside and at a computer to use it.
Fun ideas! My son especially is obsessed with his video games, but does enjoy other activities when I make the effort to plan and initiate them 🙂
So much fun. We love to get out and enjoy family activities during the summer. Now that our girls are grown, the drive is one of my favorites, and it’s been far too since I’ve been.
You did a great job on this one. Matt and I have been thinking about buying a movie projector for outdoor movies.
I’ve priced one a few times. But our neighbor borrows one from work to do a movie night.
I absolutely love Four Square! We played it a lot during my college days – such a great way to get out of the house and have fun.
I love cedar point! I grew up going there since we only lived 1.5 hours a way 🙂
This is great info. Thanks for going so in-depth. We’re planning to visit soon!
Sounds like a fun day, I love Cedar Point. I went with friends a few weeks ago. I saw that Melt place and that it was new, sounds a bit like Tom+Chee.
Food wise, yes a bit like Tom+Chee. But Melt is a sit-down restaurant with wait-staff.
Thank you for.taking the time to share! Attending for the first time as a single dad with my 2-yr old twin daughters. Can’t wait!! ??
How can I find out what is going on this weekend through the rest of the summer? The dates offered above stop on July 2nd.
Top of the Park is part of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival and only ran through July 2nd. You can find all upcoming activities on our Events Calendar. We send out a weekend roundup to our newsletter subscribers on Thursdays and publish it to the website 12 hours later. Your best bets for finding information are subscribing to our newsletter or following us on Facebook.
Hello, I saw a correction that needed to be made. Instead of the bigger area being only for 3-12 years old it’s for children that are 34′ inches and 2 years old up to 12 years old.
Colby Bounce at Briarwood Mall Manager
Thanks.I’ve updated the article. I was there during soft opening, so it’s possibly a new clarification.
I haven’t been to Cedar Point in SO long! I don’t think my husband and I have ever been there together! We need to go sometime soon! I like your idea of taking breaks and I had no idea they had a museum. I’m not a big heights person which is probably why I haven’t been in so long, but I do like the spin you around rides.
That looks both terrifying and thrilling, lol. I did ziplining in California a few years ago, during a blogging conference, which felt the same to me: it was hard to step off the platform but so exhilarating afterwards!
We’re booked to do the Adventure Park in West Bloomfield again with my daughter’s Girl Scout troop. I signed us up as her +1. Hoping my husband goes and he can do the course. Otherwise, I guess I’m up. At least that course isn’t as high as the Zoo.
Another wonderful place to pick raspberries and blackberries (limited season) is Berry Hill Farm, 12835 N Territorial Rd
Chelsea, Michigan. It’s actually less than 4 miles from intersection of Dexter-Pinckney Rd and N Territorial, so although it is a Chelsea address, we go through Dexter to get there. Very nice people. Check for updates on picking conditions: https://www.facebook.com/raspberryfarm/ or get on their mailing list.
Hi, I’d love to learn more about the promotional opportunities you offer for our organization, the University Center for Language and Literacy at U-M. I attempted to join the business newsletter, but haven’t gotten a verification/confirmation email. Can you send me your rate sheet? Thanks!
I didn’t reaize they had a kids fair! So cool. I’ll have to look out better for “real” bathrooms.
I second the readers who said use the UM bathrooms. All of the libraries are open so you could stop at the UGLi (Undergrad library) or the Grad library. We usually stop at the UM building near Ulrich’s, too, to use the restroom.
For parking, I recommend meters if you are only going to be there a few hours, specifically the ones on Hill near East Quad … if you get there early enough, there are usually a few left.
I’m missing Art Fair this year and I’m a bit bummed about it! I have time on Sat. but not really enough to drive to A2 and back.
We went to Day with Thomas 2+ years ago and our little girl loved it. We’ve been meaning to return with our little guy— now that they are coming so close, we might have to head North!
My daughter loves Rosie.
Love Thomas – great review of the park
My daughter loves Thomas! This looks like a great day!
I took my son to this last year at Greenfield Village and he loved it. We were going to go this year, but it was too expensive. I didn’t know it was coming to Flint. I would love to take him!
Both of my kids love Thomas! Thanks for reminding us that this event is happening!
My kids like Percy. We are planning on going to Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad sometime that first weekend anyway. Is the regular train running during this event, too?
I’m pretty sure it’s just Thomas during the event. We attended many years ago – 2009 – and the ride took about 40 minutes.
My kids have a cousin named Emily and their Granny has a neighbor named Mavis so those 2 top their list of favorite trains!
This looks fun! I think my almost-2 year old would enjoy it. 🙂
Looks like fun! Besides Thomas, my son loves Percy too!
My preschooler LOVES Thomas! He has a Thomas bed/bedspread, Thomas toys and train sets, Thomas shoes. Not to mention the many DVD’s he watches of Thomas And Friends.
He would love to go to this Day Out With Thomas! Thanks for the opportunity, I’ve been a longtime FB follower, you are a great resource for parents in the Ann Arbor area.
My son is crazy about trains! We’ve never been to Day out with Thomas before.
My son LOVES Thomas and adorably refers to his Thomas train toys as “Tommy”. We’ve never been to a Day out with Thomas before but I could imagine he would absolutely get wide eyed at getting to see his Tommy!
That is adorable!
I may have to drive down from the Mid-Michigan area to try this! It looks great. Plus the food up here can be…lacking compared to what’s available in the southern portion of the state 🙂
My two year old would love this!! Thank you for the giveaway!
Dashiell loves ole Creaky Cranky and Percy.
We definitely need to check this out–never been!
Percy is the favorite here, besides Thomas of course! I would love to take my son who turns 3 in a few days 🙂
My son is a big fan of the whole Thomas crew, but he especially loves Henery! He’d love to have the chance to go see the trains!
Pingback: 90+ Places for Outdoor Activities in Southeast Michigan - Mrs. Weber's Neighborhood
I have visited the Reptile Zoo, but it has been some time. We would like to go back with another grandchild, but I cannot find an address for it.
They closed a couple of years ago. I would suggest Creature Conservancy, Leslie Science Center, or Petting Farm at Domino Farms as places to see animals locally.
Hello! I just went to Kidopolis and they’re out but expecting another shipment later today or tomorrow. They say to follow them on Facebook to hear about it when it arrives.
I did just get 2 pair from Footprints. However, I”m concerned that they’re not on NASA’s approved vendor list:
Is there any way to test your glasses to see if they’re the legitimate ones? I heard some companies are selling fake ones that still have the ISO numbers on them.
Unfortunately, you can’t really do the full test yourself. Here’s some tips on checking the glasses:
Footprints sold out of eclipse glasses on Friday, unfortunately.
Thanks so much. I have really enjoyed reading your blog this summer since a co-worker introduced me to it. It’s been fun especially reading about the different parks and branching out a little to let my boys enjoy the features you talk about. We have had a great time this summer in part thanks to you. I also started a blog this summer about being a working mom, traveling with kids. Any words of wisdom from you would be awesome.
The Monster Truck movie isn’t animated. I wasn’t sure about it at first but it was ok. More geared toward older kids, My 2yo was bored. Rob Lowe plays a mean businessman.
Good to know – I’ll update the post. The poster everyone use makes it look animated. Obviously not one that ever interested us – and it kind of flew under the radar when it was released.
Thanks for the post! Last season we took my 5 month-8 month baby to almost every game. The stadium volunteers were so helpful! Here are a couple of tips for bringing babies:
-No strollers are allowed so I always wore him.
-We were allowed to bring a bag. Enter through the handicapped entrance gates and they will do a bag check.
-We purchased special headphones for him to protect from the noise.
-I believe there is a nursing room now as well.
-You do still need a ticket even for an infant, but we usually bought a cheap random one outside the stadium since the baby wasn’t actually sitting in the seat.
Great post. Thank you! One question: we plan on wearing our kids, including our toddler on our backs. Are structured childcare carriers OK to bring in?
Thanks for the great ideas! Just found your site/block/facebook page. So grateful for all the info you share!
Independence Lake Beach is open; we went swimming there on Sunday. There is no lifeguard, however.
The Korean dishes look great!
pad thai and my kids like the mac with meatballs or chicken
We really like Noodles & Company! My kids like the mac& cheese dishes, and my husband likes the plain mac with meatballs. I tend to go for Pad Thai when we go:)
My favorite is the Steak Stroganoff
The water feature is broken, already. I am aghast at how tall the structures are, and how unsafe they look to “me” with the large bouldered rocks right underneath the climbing holes. I also don’t understand how this is considered an all access playground; it isn’t toddler friendly at all nor do I think it great for any child with physical challenges.
We LOVE Buddy’s Salad – pizza is good as long as it’s hot and fresh! – not a fan of leftovers 😉 Can’t wait to go and MAKE my kids eat salad – with a side of pizza.
*drool* Love me some Buddy’s!
I’m so excited for this. I’ve been wanting to try Buddy’s Pizza for a while and when I heard they were coming to Ann Arbor I decided to wait and save the trip. I love pepperoni pizza so I can’t wait to try their Detroit Public TV pepperoni pizza…YUM!
My husband and I love Buddy’s Pizza! We have several memories that have happened at Buddys- we had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding and we told my parents I was pregnant with my son at Buddys! Can’t wait to have one local.
My husband has been waiting so long for this to open! Super excited!
Have not yet tried this place! But everyone seems to excited, it will be fun to finally see and try it out.
Never had Buddy’s before but I’m eagerly awaiting the opening!
give me meat with mushrooms
I just drove by the storefront yesterday, trying to figure out when they were going to open. My family LOVES Buddy’s Detroiter pizza. We are so happy we’re finally getting a Buddy’s in Ann Arbor.
So excited! We love Buddy’s
So excited. I love Buddy’s Pizza.
Really looking forward to checking this place out! Probably won’t get a chance to go this weekend, but will definitely stop in soon!
Fav pizza toppings are chicken or all the veggies I can get!
We are so excited! Feels like this has been in the works for ages. We’re looking forward to finally being able to go.
I’ve can’t wait for Buddy’s to open – I’ll be a first timer!
I have been waiting all summer for Buddy’s to open! My favorite topping is plain old cheese.
Excited to have a Buddy’s close by now – I grew up going to the original, and it’s my dad’s favorite pizza place. I’m sure we’ll go frequently!
Buddy’s has the best gluten free pizza crust I’ve ever had!
We love the pepperoni and sausage 8-square from Buddy’s Pizza!
Haven’t had Buddy’s yet so I’m excited to try it!
I like pepperoni on my pizza!
I love pineapple!!!
We are big time Buddy’s fans! We love the antipasto salad, the pizza (various toppings), the garlic cheese bread, and the mac and cheese. When we lived in another state for many years, we always made sure to grab some Buddy’s when we came back. Excited to have one so close to us now!
Fun! Can’t wait to try it!
I hope they have delivery!
Heard that they have gluten free pizza- can’t wait to try it!!!
Can’t wait to try it!
Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to a sausage, onion, and green pepper pizza!
Can’t wait to try this!
It has been ages since I went to one!
My favorite pizza topping is vegan cheese 🙂 Buddy’s is my favorite!!!
The mac and cheese options look yummy!
Korean beef noodles look great
The Japanese Pan Noodles are my favorite.
All of the mac and cheeses! But the Truffle Mac is my favorite.
So happy that Buddy’s is now closer to home. Our family loves their pepperoni pizza and antipasto salad!
The Wisconsin mac n cheese is sounding super good right now.
Don’t forget the Harvest end of year event at the Cobblestone Market this TUESDAY, 4-7!!!
Favorite topping, banana peppers
My favorite pizza topping is pepperoni, its the kids’ also!
So I usually kayak at Argo or Gallup once a year, but we have never done the Cascades – good review.
I usually bring a small backpack (one with strings) and put any essentials (phone, keys, etc) in a plastic bag in that. The kayaks have a tiny space for this at the end usually. Phones aren’t essential but I like taking pics when out 🙂 I took this one this year: https://www.instagram.com/p/BYRYy5mF6Kn/?taken-by=yesnodetroit
My tip for CP in general is to bring a fanny pack – though it’s not the “coolest” looking, you DON’T have to take it off on rides.
Also re: restrictions, I gained a bit of weight (~ 15 lbs) over the past year, and was unable to ride Millennium or Top Thrill, as I couldn’t fit in the seat :/. If you’re overweight, I recommend trying out the sample seat beforehand – Millennium and Top Thrill seem to use the same seat – rather than waiting in line and being disappointed, like I was.
Do you have the gingerbread house at somerset?
I am not the store. I suggest calling them to find out.
I called and the time is actually at 3 pm not 10:30 am for 11/6 class.
Thanks. They had submitted the event themselves. I found their Facebook event is 3p on 11/5. I’ve updated to match the Facebook event and contacted them to confirm.
Thanks for assembling this resource. It’s so valuable to the Ann arbor and surrounding community. I’ve used your site to check out parks for my family. We’re trying to visit every park in Ann arbor and there’s a lot!
Of course you could take the kids to THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR at the Power Center, December 7th thru 10th. Slapstick comedy, chases through the audience, skeletons in the closet, song and dance!
Shakespeare’s accessible and only farce, plenty of visual humor for the kids not to mention an easily understood text. Get kids involved and enjoying live theatre and Shakespeare at an early age – much better than video games, movies, electronic devices, etc.
FYI I just went to Applebees on Carpenter and was told kids do not eat free 🙁
Thanks. I’ll check with all the locations to see what the new promotion is. On Facebook, they last posted about Kids Eat Free on 9/26.
This is listed for the wrong day! Gene Butman Ford is hosting this event next week on the 16th from 1-4pm!
Do you know if the mailbox is back out for 2017?
Yes it is.
The building on Huron St just north of I-94 is lit up again this year.
Spring St across from Hunt Park–primarily inflatables.
Is this open to the public?
I believe so. I have emailed Fit4Mom to verify.
Yes it is open to the public – you just need to register at the link above.
Where is the place located?
Pittsfield Plaza at 3153 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd – it’s in front of the Ann Arbor Saline Meijer. It was in the press release towards the bottom, but I’ve added it to the top of the article.
It was a Japanese restaurant called Cherry Blossom. I would like to see a restaurant succeed in this spot! Thanks for the review.
Thank you! I never went there, but felt like it was an Asian restaurant. I too want to see something succeed here. I think with Costco, hotels, and more traffic in the area it will do better.
If it’s going to run for many, many years!
Price and safety are most important
I’ve never taken my kiddo. I feel like he might be old enough to enjoy it now.
Safety features and convenience for transporting and travelling with children are the most important features to me.
Love a good bowl of tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich on a cold winter day. Home made is so much better than out of the can. Will have to give your recipe a try!
I’m not a big tomato soup fan, but I’ve been thinking of getting an Instant Pot. I take it you like yours? 🙂
I recently won a Le Creuset dutch oven, too, so I want to eventually try making homemade soup with that.
That looks delicious! I wish my family enjoyed soups more 🙂
I was interested in one of the free listings for your birthday party guide. The company I work for is called The Princess Party Co., and we provide professionally trained actresses dressed as popular princess characters all throughout Ann Arbor. Let me know if this listing is possible!
Yes, you can list. Fill out the form and select the type

HI, It looks like there is NO Performance of Under the African Sky on Saturday, 2/24. It says on the website that there was a brochure misprint. 🙁
Thank you for the update. I had added it to the calendar when the season was first announced last spring. It looks like there is a Sunday performance instead, so I have updated this listing to be for that show. I will verify any other changes for the rest of their season.

Hi, Sunday is the 8th this year. I’m fairly new to Ann Arbor so I wasn’t sure if the parade would be Sunday or it’s Monday (4/9).
Good eye! It is Sunday the 8th and FoolMoon is Friday, April 6th. I’ve corrected both dates.

I love your review but I wholly disagree with your wish that it continued the Avengers plot points. In my house, we’re seeing the Avengers films wildly out of order and I truly enjoyed this as a stand-alone film. I also think more people (like my mom and BFF) could jump right in and enjoy the movie without being forced to see 6 other prequels.

Sad that your daughter not liking a book in first grade kept you away opening day. I depend on your reviews to get an honest opinion if PG movies are ok for my daughter. I hope you see this girl centered story soon.
Part of it is lack of opportunity too. We didn’t get a screening invite (although I’m not sure we could have gone to Troy that night) and my daughter has activities all weekend. I think we’ve convinced her to go see it – when we get a chance. Next weekend actually looks worse, so it will probably be spring break weekend.
The Ypsi Egg Hunt is on April 1st.
Thanks. I must have clicked the first Saturday in April since most hunts are on Saturdays. I’ve fixed it.

I don’t even remember watching the ending of the first one! I’ll have to watch that again in the meantime, because I want to see the new one when it comes in November! Thanks for the preview 🙂
I am just now getting into Harry Potter. I am reading the very first book with some of my students. My kids are too young to get into it. What age would you say to begin reading the first book with kids?
I think we started about age 4. We only made it through Sorcerer’s Stone. They only made it part way through Chamber of Secrets. She read them independently in 2nd-3rd grade. We’re listening to the audio books in the car now.

Nice list. I did not even know about Go! In Ypsilanti – must try. I guess Zingerman’s creamery is gelato but also very nice on a hot day. Also, side note, Argus farm stop has fluffy bottom farms coming to serve frozen yogurt (but they call it an “ice cream social” so I’m not certain) every Saturday from 1-4 on their patio.
Yes, I purposely left off gelato & frozen yogurt. For gelato we like Iorio’s Gelateria on William (near Cottage Inn).

I thought it sucked. We left about a half an hour in. It was way to bright out , the screen was way too small, audio sucked, people talking throughout the entire movie. This was the first and last time for us.
I too was unimpressed the first half hour. They seemed to get the audio volume figured out. There were a number of dimly lit night scenes in the beginning of the movie which were harder to see with daylight. After those first scenes, scenes were better lit until it was darker. As the sun went down, the darker scenes were easier to see. I didn’t really expect movie theater quiet.
Hi…we also attended the movie night. You described it all to a T. I’m sorry you went back home to get your printed tickets because on an email it said we could use our phone in which we did.
Thank you for all that you do!!!
My kiddos would be thrilled to attend this event again!! They had a blast last time. Such a fun place plus the Thomas ride…great fun!!

My 2 year old loves his Thomas books, and he would love to see Thomas in real life. My 4 year old daughter used to love the shows, so she’d love to go see him live, too!
It looks like great fun for the kids!
My will-be 2 year old is obsessed with Thomas right now! He would love this!
We took our Thomas-obsessed daughter last year and she LOVED it. She still talks about getting to meet Thomas. At first I thought it was a bit pricey, but it was totally worth it. There were plenty of activities through-out the park to keep her occupied for a full day, both those for the Thomas event and those regularly at Crossroads Village (we did some of the rides and saw the apple press!), Best day of the whole year! The park was great at handling the crowds too!
This sounds great, thanks!
My son is a huge Thomas fan and would love this. Thank you for a fun blog with reviews and information for moms!

Please go to the website – cuaa.edu/manorchristmas – to reserve a ticket online.
My apologies. The listings have been corrected. I updated last year’s calendar listing (which was free) and missed the price on two of the dates. Holiday event articles will be published starting after Halloween, so hopefully not too many people saw the incorrect info. My stats show only 13 views between the 3 posts in the last month. And I know a few of those were me as I updated them. And you also viewed the event at least once.
They do offer high chair seats that attach to the side of the table if you ask!
Thanks! I’ve updated the seating section to reflect that. With a 12 year old, I didn’t ask and didn’t see any in use.
I always get the beef frita with an extra side of garlic cilantro fries – their fries are great. I’ve never ordered a Batido for myself but a friend had the chocolate one once, and I was surprised that it was more like a slushee vs. a milkshake.
Of the two batidos I tried I liked the coconut cream better. I want to try chocolate.

Here are a couple of great ones that we discovered years ago when MIL was still alive. We had her for every holiday and frequented buffets all over the area, just as you are doing now. These two are off the beaten path and probably cheaper, too!
Jerry’s Pub in Brooklyn, MI: A fantastic variety of traditional Easter buffet food plus the best cocktails in the Irish Hills. Right on Wampler’s Lake so it is very scenic.
Main Street Stable and Tavern in Blissfield, MI. Nice country drive (if you stay off US23) and very delicious, lovingly prepared buffet. https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/American-Restaurant/Main-Street-Stable-Tavern-61028957005/
BOTH of these locations serve Bell’s Oberon!
Anna – Just an FYI Dexter Creamery has soft Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream, Sorbet, and Gelato. We also have 12 flavors of amazing hand dipped Ice Cream and over 70 toppings. You should stop in, we promise you’ll find many things you love.
Thanks! I’ve updated the list to include you. I don’t get to Dexter as much as I should. But, you are on our list – and we need to visit this spring/summer for playground reviews.

The Weber’s holiday brunches are typically less choices than their regular Sunday brunch, unfortunately. They also got rid of the eggs Benedict on the brunch line which is a real bummer

Update for 2019:
Static display aircraft, pedal planes, child craft activities from U-M Perceptual Development Laboratory, and biplane rides from Yankee Air Museum (for a fee).
Pancakes with sausage, juice and coffee are still $6 for adults, $3 for children 3-7, under 3 free!

I went to the show on Thursday night. I parked in the gravel lot, taking care not to park where the sign said a permit was needed. My spot in the lot had no sign in front of it. When I got home, I noticed a parking ticket on my windshield. My friend who invited me said parking was free. The fee is $20 if paid immediately, otherwise $25. I’m not a happy customer now. That’s more than my ticket cost me!

Aubree’s Dexter said they are not participating in the kids eat free Tuesday
Thanks for the update. The main Aubrees page shared Kids Eat Free on Tuesday again today. It does say at participating locations but doesn’t exclude anyone. I’ll update the text to exclude them.

I’m planning on visiting here with a friend and 5 kids. Is there a good place there to eat some packed lunches? Did you notice the size of the lockers?

I HATE that play structure. It was a wonderful addition, as a local kid raised funds for it to be installed. I just have no idea why that particular structure was installed. My 12 year old fell off of those last week. The slides are always muddy at the bottom, and the tall one is just way too high. Not my favorite park.

Thank you! This is the most useful information I’ve found as new parent in the Ann Arbor school district. Sadly the school’s websites do not provide the more thorough information. Even if just to say “more information will be posted in late August.”
