Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival (A2CAF): Small + Indie Press is a one day venture into the world of small press comics publishing. This event offers attendees the chance to meet comic artists and learn about the art of creating comics outside of a traditional publisher. Due to the content of many independently published books, this event is intended for a teen and adult audience. A2CAF: Small + Indie Press is created in partnership with Athenaeum Comic Art.
Vault of Midnight will be at A2CAF Small + Indie Press selling books by all the headliners for signings.
The event is listed as for teens & adults.
Headlining artists:
- Keith Knight (Added to replace Caroline Cash) – Keith Knight, “Gentleman Cartoonist,” is an acclaimed artist known for comic strips like The K Chronicles and The Knight Life. Blending humor, satire, politics, and race, his work reflects his experiences as an African-American man, often dealing with social injustices. Knight is also a rapper, social activist, and co-creator of the Hulu series “Woke”, based on his life and comics.
- Lisa Hanawalt is the creator of Tuca & Bertie, the production designer/producer of BoJack Horseman, and the production designer/producer of the upcoming Long Story Short. She’s written and illustrated four books published by Drawn & Quarterly: My Dirty Dumb Eyes (2013), Hot Dog Taste Test (2016), Coyote Doggirl (2018), and I Want You (2020). She lives in Los Angeles.
- Julia Wertz is a professional cartoonist, amateur historian, and part-time urban explorer. She made the comic books The Fart Party vol 1 and vol 2 (collected in Museum of Mistakes) and the graphic novels Drinking at the Movies, The Infinite Wait, Tenements, Towers, & Trash, (for which she won the 2018 Brendan Gill Prize), and Impossible People. She does regular short story comics for the New Yorker. Her work has appeared regularly in the New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, the Believer, the Best American Comics, and other publications.
- CANCELED – Caroline Cash is a cartoonist who currently works out of Philadelphia. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Vice, The Nib, The Chicago Reader, and various other publications.
