Top of the Park at Ann Arbor Summer Festival
Once school ends on Friday, one of our favorite annual summer events begins…The Ann Arbor Summer Festival (A2SF) with their FREE Top of the Park event. The Ann Arbor Summer Festival runs from the Friday night that Ann Arbor Public Schools close for summer break through Fourth of July Weekend. The Ann Arbor Summer Festival combines ticketed Main Stage events and Top of the Park, free Public outdoor events.
Performances at Top of the Park
Top of the Park includes music and other acts performing on both the North University Stage and the smaller Acoustic Stage. Sunday nights are Kids Night with a Kids Rock concert sponsored by Ann Arbor District Library at 7p. In addition to the musical performances, there are other performances like the Cirque Mechanics: The Gantry Bike or The Magmanus circus performers.
KidZone Tents at Top of the Park
Each night of Top of the Park features a KidZone tent with activities for children sponsored by a local business or organization. Over the years, my daughter has played with robots, played instruments, made butterfly wings, and much more. A few of the KidZone activities for 2015 are Instrument Petting Zoo, E.T. Space Helmets, Origami, Science Fun, Luminary, and LEGO Robots.
Movies at Top of the Park
Top of the Park Movies are shown on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Unfortunately the movies can’t star until after dark, so they start at 10p which makes for a late night. Last year was our first year attending a Top of the Park Movie. We didn’t stay for the end of all of the movies, but we always had fun. There are some great movies this year that my daughter is anticipating. The festival starts with The LEGO Movie,
Food & Beverage at Top of the Park
Top of the Park’s Culinary Row provides a selection of food from various local restaurants. My family is excited to see Satchel’s BBQ on the list this year, we love BBQ. The only drawback is BBQ is messy. Other options for dinner include Ray’s Red Hots, Pizza House, Oasis Grill, Noodles & Company, Hut-K Chaats, and Chela’s. For snacks options include Stucchi’s for Ice Cream, Sugar Shack for popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones, and Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea for hot and iced beverages. Buying food and beverages from the Culinary Row vendors helps to support Top of the Park and keep it admission free.
For 2015, Top of the Park starts on Friday, June 13 and runs nightly except for Mondays through Sunday, July 5. Below is a list of the Kid Zone tents, Kids Rock Concerts, and movies that are appropriate for kids or teens.
