Star Wars: Episode IX Teaser Trailer ( & Title)

The Star Wars Celebration is happening in Chicago this week. Of course that means big news for the new film coming this December. First, the title is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Thoughts About the Title & Trailer & Photos

The title is very intriguing to me since the last character named Skywalker was Luke who died at the end of The Last Jedi, but provides voice over in the trailer. The trailer heavily features Rey – does this mean she has Skywalker blood (I’m still hoping to erase the Last Jedi’s revelation that she’s a nobody)? Of course, Kylo Ren does have Skywalker blood but barely appears in the teaser trailer.

Rey features heavily in the trailer on a desert planet – I wonder if it is Tatooine, Jakku, or a new planet. Kylo Ren makes a very brief appearance. Finn, Poe, and BB-8 all appear.

BB-8 has a new droid companion shown below. Maybe this is the marketing star like the Porgs were in Last Jedi.

The old guard does make an appearance in the trailer. Luke (Mark Hamill) is heard in voiceover. Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) makes his first return and is shown piloting the Falcons with Chewbacca by his side.

Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) is shown hugging Rey thanks to a combination of previously shot footage and/or digital modification.

After feeling disappointed with The Last Jedi, I am hopeful that the film turns around for a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga now that JJ Abrams is back at the helm.
