Make an Easy Family Dinner with Hamburger Helper
Do you ever have one of those days where you are out of the house all afternoon and then need to rush and get dinner together? Yesterday was one of those days in our house. It was crazy with Science Olympiad practice, dropping off my daughter’s entry in the Bricks 4 Kidz/Ann Arbor Art Center LEGO Build Off, UM graduation traffic, and grocery shopping. My daughter was out of allergy medicine, so we had to stop at the store last night. We finally made it home at 7p and I still had to make dinner. On another weekend, we might have gone out to eat, but with the crowds in town for graduation and plans to eat on the run over the weekend, eating at home was the better choice.
Fortunately, our last stop was at the grocery store and I was able to pickup ingredients for dinner. Hamburger Helper is currently offering a mail-in rebate for Free Ground Beef.
Since we had to buy 3 boxes of Hamburger Helper for the rebate, I let my daughter help me pick out a couple of flavors of Hamburger Helper. Her choice was Deluxe Cheeseburger Macaroni while I chose the Crunchy Taco. We talked about a few other options before agreeing to Lasagna as a third variety. Hamburger Helper is a great value. I paid $1.50/box at Meijer and have the rebate to pay for the ground beef. Even better, each box of Hamburger Helper includes a Box Top for Education which will help my daughter’s school.
We decided to make the Deluxe Cheeseburger Macaroni for dinner. I really want to try the Crunchy Taco which is rice based instead of noodle based.
My husband called that he was on his way home as I was unpacking the groceries, so I quickly started making dinner. Often times I will use Hamburger Helper as a starting point for a recipe. Since I was in a hurry, I made the basic recipe according to the directions on the box and added frozen broccoli while the macaroni was simmering.

We enjoyed our Deluxe Cheeseburger Macaroni. The frozen broccoli was a nice way to add vegetables to the meal without a lot of effort. The broccoli was a nice addition. I think next time I would also season the ground beef while browning it. We have a couple of dry rubs that my daughter really likes on her hamburgers.
For the rest of the month, we will continue to have nights when I need to make dinner quickly due to my daughter’s soccer practice. We can’t wait to try the other varieties of Hamburger Helper. I know I am eager to try the Crunchy Taco variety.
How do you handle dinner on nights when you don’t have a lot of time to cook? Would Hamburger Helper make your life easier? If so, don’t forget to download the coupon for Free Ground Beef from Hamburger Helper.
