Mac is Back at Noodles & Company
Noodles & Company is bring back their Mac & Cheese lineup. On Monday I was invited to attend a complementary tasting of the Macs & other popular dishes.
The tasting was at the Arborland location. Our table was definitely drawing some attention with 8 dishes for 3 people, a pile of desserts, and personalized attention. The location manager and regional manager were great about bringing us a variety of dishes.
One thing that I love about Noodles is that they are great at modifying dishes. Other than the Mac and Cheese dishes, the manager customized some of the other dishes based on staff, customer, and our preferences. If you have an allergy, ask to see their allergy menu or check out their website. The allergen menu includes ways to modify dishes to accommodate different needs. When you order, be sure to let them know about your allergy and they will take extra care.
Mac and Cheese Lineup
There are now 4 Mac and Cheese dishes in the line-up.
- Wisconsin Mac & Cheese
- Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese
- BBQ Pork Mac & Cheese
- Truffle Mac & Cheese
Wisconsin Mac & Cheese
First, Noodles and Company reformulated their cheese sauce. It now has a stronger cheddar flavor. My daughter loves the Mac and Cheese, but I thought the sauce was bland. I definitely like the locked up flavor.
BBQ Pork Mac
The BBQ Pork has been my favorite in the past. It returns with the new sauce. Fried jalapeños have replaced the fried onions since the fried jalapeños are already in other dishes. Personally I preferred the onions so the dish was less spicy. Next time, I’ll just ask them to leave the jalapeños off. Sadly, no other dishes use the fried onions so they don’t have them in the restaurant.

Buffalo Chicken Mac
One of my dining companions loved the Buffalo Chicken Mac and was very sad when it was removed. The buffalo Mac is good, but I still prefer the BBQ Pork.
I cannot eat mushrooms, so I did not try this dish. My dining companions raved about the bread crumb topping. Even my companion who was not a big mushroom fan enjoyed the dish.
Noodles & Company currently offers 3 shareable (aka appetizers): Potstickers, Korean BBQ Meatballs, and Cheesy Garlic Bread.
The Potstickers come with a soy dipping sauce. At the Arborland location, the staff often eats their potstickers with the Mac & Cheese sauce. We had both sauces available. I definitely preferred the traditional soy dipping sauce.
Korean BBQ Meatballs
The Korean BBQ Meatballs are tossed in Gochujang sauce – a sweet and spicy Korean BBQ sauce. These are the winner of the night for me! I loved their crispy outside and the sauce had the right amount of spice for me (I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice).
Other Noodle Dishes
In addition to the 4 Mac dishes, we also sampled 4 other dishes. Many of the dishes were modified based on our preferences and popular modifications. Most substitutions and some additions are available at no extra charge.
This was one of the dishes that they modified quite a bit for us. Broccoli was added in place of the mushrooms and tomatoes, and there was extra sauce. I definitely liked the extra sauce. I’ll have to remember to ask for extra sauce on some of the dishes.
Spicy Chipotle Adobo
The Spicy Chipotle Adobo offers noodles with a southwestern flair. The dish is spicy, but has a dollop of sour cream to cool it down. Ours was served with chicken.
Thai Green Curry
I usually do not like curry, but I loved the Thai Green Curry. The sauce a sweet coconut green curry. The coconut was definitely the stronger flavor here. The dish is lighter than others with pineapple, broccoli, and snap peas. Shrimp is recommended with the dish, although they served the protein on the side for us – and gave us the option of shrimp or tofu. I definitely see myself ordering this again in the future!
Spicy Korean Beef Noodles
Spicy Korean Beef Noodles is once of the spiciest dishes on the Noodles & Company menu. It has the same sauce as the Korean BBQ Meatballs. For me, the dish is spicier than I would order. If you like a bit of spice, definitely check it out.
They topped our meal off with a literal tower of sweets. Fortunately they were all individually wrapped so I could bring some home to share with my family. For dessert they offer rice crispy treats, chocolate chunk cookies, and snickerdoodles.
Noodles & Company is giving one lucky Ann Arbor with Kids reader free noodles for a year (one bowl per month).
