Last Week’s Activities

We have been quite busy lately. We made a stop at the Hands On Museum on Monday after lunch at Zingerman’s.

Wednesday we were supposed to go to Buhr Park Pool for Tot Splash, but it was just too cool. So we hit the Briarwood Mall play area. Really missed not having Tree Town Toys in the mall (PS Keep track of their website, become their Facebook fan, or follow on Twitter. They always have crafts and other activities going on.). We made our obligatory stop in Borders Express for one story & the Apple Store so she could play on the iMacs. Of course she checked out the iPhones & found a few new preschool games for me to download to my iPod Touch.
Thursday we picked cherries. We went to Spicer Orchards up near Fenton. They had both dark sweet cherries and pie cherries (tart). They have a pitting machine for the pie cherries at a nominal cost. Check their website or call for picking conditions. The cherries were at a level that my 3.5 yr old could pick without a ladder or being lifted & I could also pick without stooping over – much nicer than strawberries & peas. They had freshly made apple cider donuts and some inside & outside tables. That afternoon we made two pies. That night we went to the Lakeshore Family Festival in Ypsilanti. It was a bit cool & misted, but my daughter had a great time on the rides.
Saturday we were in the Ann Arbor 4th of July parade with her preschool. I definitely recommend attending. It starts on State Street, crosses to Main on Liberty and comes back on William. Main Street was the most crowded and William was the least crowded (at least until those of us in the parade started filling in the end of the route). IMO the best area to watch is Liberty between Maynard & 5th. It wasn’t real crowded & most groups had not yet run out of candy. Of course if you want minimal candy, go to the end of the parade route.
This week has been lower key, just going to Lille Park & Montibeller Parks. We’re looking forward to the Jaycees carnival at Pioneer Thursday-Sunday, the Rolling Sculpture Car Show on Friday, and the Saline Celtic Festival parade on Saturday.
