Too often, super heroes are marketed towards boys, but there are plenty of girls (like my daughter) who also love Super Heroes. When I was offered the opportunity to participate in a promotion called Girls Love Avengers Too, I knew it was a perfect fit for Ann Arbor with Kids since my daughter is a huge fan of The Avengers as are many of her friends (both girls and boys). My family is eagerly counting down the days until MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron is released on Friday, May 1. My husband and daughter are jealous that I will be attending a screening early next week in order to publish a review on Friday.
After school yesterday, my daughter and I headed to Walmart so she could shop for Avengers Merchandise. She was ready for the trip, wearing her MARVEL Girls Rule t-shirt. Her Girls Rule T-shirt features female Marvel characters including Black Widow and Scarlet Witch from MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Based on our shopping trip, I decided to highlight 5 fun products selected by my daughter for other Girls who Love Avengers Too. The first three products on the list are items that we purchased on our trip yesterday. The final two items are products that we saw on yesterday’s shopping trip that my daughter already owns, but really loves and recommends.
1. MARVEL Avengers Monopoly
On our shopping trip, my daughter pretty quickly selected Avengers Monopoly as her first choice Avengers product. She has been playing Monopoly at school and is excited to have her own Avengers version of Monopoly.
While in the Avengers Toy Aisle at Walmart, we were able to use the Super Hero Assemble App to scan the Hulk sign and take a photo with the Hulk Buster suit. I was hoping to get my daughter in the photo with Hulk Buster, but he took up too much of the frame. The app is available for iPhones and in the Google Play store.
Once we got home, my daughter wasted no time (after completing her homework) in setting up MARVEL Avengers Monopoly.
The MARVEL Avengers Monopoly character options are the 6 main Avengers: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. Of course my daughter decided to play Black Widow, the only female Avenger. The game play in Avengers Monopoly is a little different than in traditional Monopoly. Rather than trying to buy properties and build houses and hotels, players work together to protect all of the locations. Also, instead of using money, locations are saved using your energy bank. Each player gets power credit for the locations that they save (similar to owning property) and receives additional power when other characters land on their location (like paying rent). Instead of Chance and Community Chest cards, there are SHIELD and Villains cards. Once all of the locations have been saved, whoever has them most cumulative power wins. Personally, I’m hoping that the Avengers Monopoly variations result in a quicker game since Monopoly can be a long game.
2. Avengers POP! Figures
As we were finishing our shopping trip, we spotted another section which had Avengers POP! Figures and mugs. My daughter loves POP! Figures and was hoping to find a POP! Black Widow figure. Unfortunately, there was no Black Widow figure, but she selected Hawkeye as a close second. Hawkeye will go well with the POP! Gamora figure that she has from MARVEL’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
3. Avengers Travel Mugs
My daughter selected an Avengers travel mug. We typically watch the movies in our basement, so having a spill resistant mug is convenient. It’s also nice for game night so we don’t have to worry about her drink spilling on the game.
4. MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron LEGO Sets
As we were shopping, I realized how much Avengers merchandise my daughter already owns. My initial thought for the promotion was to steer my daughter towards an MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron LEGO set. However, when we went shopping I realized that she already has the small and medium sized Avengers LEGO sets. My daughter’s favorite Age of Ultron set is Hulk Buster which comes with a Scarlet Witch Mini-figure.
5. Avengers Video Games
Our family also recommends both the LEGO Marvel and Disney Infinity 2.0: MARVEL Edition video games. LEGO video games are my daughter and husband’s favorite games for the Wii U. They spend many evenings working on beating levels. LEGO MARVEL was easily their favorite LEGO video game. The LEGO MARVEL game was actually a major reason that we upgraded from a Wii to a Wii U since the game was not available for the Wii. For Christmas, my daughter asked for and received Disney Infinity 2.0. She liked that Black Widow was one of the included characters. Between Christmas and her January birthday, she received the other MARVEL characters.
I definitely recommend both LEGO MARVEL and Disney Infinity 2.0 for girls (or boys) who love MARVEL.
Our family already owns all of the MARVEL movies on BluRay, so we didn’t have movies on our shopping list. If you do not already have the movies, they would be a good addition to the list of products for Girls Who Love Avengers. In addition to the products recommended above, you can find more Avengers products available at Walmart on their website and in store.
In addition to the merchandise products, there are a number of MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron branded food items. My daughter was excited to find Doritos with the Avengers characters on them. Her favorite packaging was for the Doritos Ranch Dipped Hot Wings since they had Black Widow on them. Unfortunately, the spiciness implied by the name prevented her from trying them (she doesn’t like spicy foods).
Is your family excited for the release of MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron? We have been re-watching the recent movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We started with MARVEL’S The Avengers. We have already watched MARVEL’s Iron Man 3 and MARVEL’s Thor: The Dark World. We definitely want to watch MARVEL’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier this weekend and possibly MARVEL’s The Guardians of The Galaxy before next weekend. How are you getting ready?
