EVOL Frozen Foods Are a Quick Dinner Option

With the end of the school year approaching, our lives are rapidly becoming more chaotic. Each year our late May/early June activity level seems to rise. Between Girl Scouts, Soccer, and Science Olympiad plus end of the year programs, there are often several nights a week where we need to grab dinner on the run or make a quick dinner at home. While sometimes grabbing a bite out is more practical due to location, there are nights where I want a quick, healthy dinner that I can make at home.
EVOL Frozen Foods
EVOL Frozen Foods offer a wide variety of options from street tacos to burritos to pasta dishes to stir fries. Their products are offered in single serve and “family size” meals. EVOL has made a commitment to using real, natural ingredients in their foods.
My daughter and I visited Meijer to buy an assortment of EVOL foods to try. We debated which products to try (and actually went through a few iterations of what was in our cart). We decided to purchase:
- “Family Meals” – Grilled Chicken Parmesan and Teriyaki Chicken
- Single Serve Entrees – Chicken Enchilada Bake and Butternut Squash & Sage Ravioli
- Street Tacos – Shredded Chicken & Caramelized Onion
- Burrito – Cilantro Lime Chicken
We bought the bags, single-serve entrees, and the burritos in sets of 2 to utilize mPerks coupons for savings of $0.50-$1. There is currently an mPerks coupon for $0.50 off of 2 packages of Street Tacos (valid until 6/6/2015).
When I noted that EVOL is Love spelled backwards, my daughter was quick to correct me that it is actually the mirror image of “love” (note that the “e” is backwards).
We used the EVOL frozen foods to make a quick dinner squeezed between my daughter’s after-school brownie meeting and my evening Girl Scout meeting for volunteers. Since the Grilled Chicken Parmesan meal is listed as 2 servings, we supplemented it with the Street Tacos and the Burrito to feed our family of 3.
Upcoming Sponsored Events
Appetizer – Street Tacos
We started with the Street Tacos and they were a definite hit. Overall, we preferred the Street Tacos without the included cream sauce.
Entree – Grilled Chicken Parmesan
The Grilled Chicken Parmesan was very easy to cook as a one pan meal and was ready in under 10 minutes. I love one pan meals because the minimize the cleanup. While the bagged meal was listed as 2 servings, we split it into three portions so that we could all sample the meal. Each portion was larger than I was expecting, so the bag could be split between 2 adults and a small child. With the street tacos and the burrito and a salad, we definitely all had more than enough for dinner.
Appetizer – Cilantro Lime Chicken Burrito
On the other hand, we were not big fans of the Cilantro Lime Chicken burrito. My daughter does not care for beans so she opted against trying the burrito. My husband and I found the burrito to be dry and the filling consistency too smooth. We won’t be buying the burritos again.
Single Serve – Butternut Squash & Sage Ravioli
I also tried the Butternut Squash single-serving meal for lunch one day. I selected the Butternut Squash in a single serving since neither my daughter nor my husband care for the butternut squash ravioli. I enjoyed the meal and will definitely buy them in the future to have on-hand when I need a quick meal for myself.
While we enjoyed most of the EVOL products and can’t wait to try the others, my biggest disappointment is that the street tacos are packaged 2 per box and the “family meals” serve 2. As a family of 3 (with a 9 year old who eats like an adult), portions of 2 are awkward for our family. Going forward, I plan to supplement the EVOL bagged meals with either a single-serve meal or a package of street tacos to feed my family.
