Arbor Annie’s Winter Break Week 1 Picks

Now that Christmas is over, Arbor Annie has her picks for family fun over the first week of Winter Break.

Arbor Annie's Winter Break Week 1 Picks - December 26-29

Arbor Annie’s Winter Break Week 1 Picks

First, in planning your week, it is a good idea to check out our Christmas and New Year Closures. Some of those closures extend through the 26th and start on the 29th.

If you’re not quite ready to stop celebrating Christmas, there are still a few holiday events – Holiday Nights, It’s a Wonderful Life, and The World Without a Panto Claus.

With the snow on Christmas Eve and cold temperatures, the snow should be sticking around for most of the week. Unfortunately, the temperatures are very cold. Be sure to bundle up if you’ want to enjoy one of our favorite sledding hills (anyone’s kids get a new sled for the holidays?)

This week is also your last chance to visit the UM Museum of Natural History in the Ruthven building. They’re closed on Tuesday, the 26th, and Saturday the 30th is their Last Day at the Museum celebration. The museum will be closed for 2018 and will open in their new building in 2019.

With frigid temperatures, this week, it’s also a great time for indoor activities. We loved the Henry Ford’s Science Behind Pixar Exhibit. I recommend booking your admission in advance as it will probably be pretty busy during winter break.

I know we’re planning to see a few movies over break. It’s nice to be able to take advantage of matinee pricing.

Other fun indoor activities include: Ice Skating, Indoor Swimming, Bowling, and visiting museums.

    Movies

The big movie in theaters is still Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We saw it last weekend, so don’t miss our review and parental guidance. We’re headed to see it for a second time this week with a friend – possibly checking out the newly renovated State Theater.

Over break, I’ve also promised my daughter a trip to see Jumanji which opened last week.

Coco is still in theaters and was a great movie. I definitely recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet. Also in animated movies is Ferdinand, based on the book.

Thor: Ragnarok is also still in theaters – be sure to check out our review and parental guidance before heading to the theater. Also showing in theaters are The Greatest Showman about PT Barnum, and Pitch Perfect 3. I’ve heard good things about The Greatest Showman, but my daughter has no interest in it.

Looking forward to New Year’s Weekend
