Arbor Annie’s Earth Day Weekend Picks April 20-22

It’s Earth Day Weekend! Arbor Annie has her picks for the weekend.

Arbor Annie’s Weekend Event Picks

After some miserable non-spring like weather this week, spring makes a return just in time for Earth Day events. It’s going to be a perfect weekend to head out to things like the Earth Day Festival at Leslie Science & Nature Center. My daughter and I had a great time at last year’s event. Be sure to check our 2017 review for 4 tips for attending the Earth Day Festival.

And with Earth Day, it’s a great day to think about reuse. This weekend there is a Mom2Mom Sale in Canton, the Jay Lee Court Booksale, and Bookstock – Metro Detroit’s Largest Used Book Sale.

    Free Weekend Movies

Quality 16’s Free Spring Matinees wrap up this week with The Emoji Movie. I anticipate they’ll announce their summer movie series in mid-May.

    New Releases

New this weekend is I Feel Pretty. The movie stars Amy Schumer and is rated PG-13. It might be a good choice for teens (especially girls) to promote positive body image (but I haven’t seen the movie).

Last weekend’s Rampage, based on the video game and the animated Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero are still playing in theaters..

The show times didn’t work out for us to see Ready Player One last weekend, but I have heard good things about it.

A Wrinkle in Time also continues. While I loved the book as a kid, I honestly don’t remember any of it 30 years later. I enjoyed the movie, but it  seemed to spend a lot of time building the story and then reached the resolution fairly quickly.

A Wrinkle in Time - Meg & Mrs. Whatsit

Black Panther continues at the local Box Office event though it is available on digital in less than 3 weeks. Have you checked out our Black Panther Review with Parental Guidance?

Marvel Studios' BLACK PANTHERL to R: Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), T'Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Okoye (Danai Gurira)Ph: Film Frame©Marvel Studios 2018

Other movies in theaters include The Miracle SeasonLove, Simon, and I Can Only Imagine. Note, the animated Isle of Dogs is rated PG-13.
