Arbor Annie’s Weekly Roundup – August 5-9

Our summer is finally more relaxed now that my daughter is done with swim team and softball. We won’t have early morning practice and late night games. That will give us more of a chance to explore Ann Arbor & surrounding towns.

Arbor Annie's Weekday Picks - July 5-9

Arbor Annie’s Weekday Picks

Update: This event was postponed until next week due to the forecast. Tuesday is theΒ National Night Out Celebration. Check out the Pittsfield Township celebration at Lillie Park.

Wednesday is the day for the Ann Arbor Farmers Market. It starts with Kids at the Market in the morning. It continues with the Food Truck Rally and then Flicks on Bricks. Wednesday’s movie is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – a great choice for teens and parents.

For many years we would head to Dexter Blueberry Farm and then head to Dexter Daze (which starts on Friday) for a fun afternoon.

Check out our places to get wet. We went kayaking last weekend, but I really want to head to the Cascades and go tubing

It’s also a great week to find a new playground to explore. Check out our weekly Playground Profile series.

    Movies

The summer matinee series at local theaters are starting to wind down. Quality 16‘s series ended last week. Cinemark plays Hotel Transylvania 3 on Tuesday. Emaginehas The Land Before Time on Wednesday and Thursday. Cinemark and Emagine both end their series next week (8/13 and 8/15).

Dora and the Lost City of Gold opens on Friday. I expect showings will start Thursday evening. Are you looking forward to the movie? My daughter read lots of Dora books, but never really watched the show – and at 13 is “too old” for even a teen Dora.

The Lion King opened a couple weekends ago to mixed reviews. We didn’t see it, but I’m in the I’m not sure it needed to be made camp. If you saw it, let us know what you thought.

    Lion King - Pride Rock

Toy Story 4 is still going strong. Be sure to check our review and make plans to see it yourself.

Toy Story 4 - Bo Peep at the Carnival

Of the blockbuster action films, Spider-Man Far From Home opened last month and is a great choice.

Spider-Man: Far From Home - Spidey swings across London's Tower Bridge
Spider-Man in Columbia Pictures’ SPIDER-MAN: β„’ FAR FROM HOME
