Arbor Annie’s MLK Weekend Roundup – January 18-21

Winter weather arrives this weekend with a forecast of several inches for Saturday. Hopefully everything will be cleared up in time for MLK Day events on Monday. Other highlights this weekend are the end of Restaurant Week and the kickoff of the Detroit Auto Show.

Arbor Annie's MLK Weekend Picks - January 18-21

Arbor Annie’s Weekend Picks

Winter weather is forecast to arrive in full force this weekend. Our first significant snowfall is predicted for Saturday. If it does snow, be sure to verify any events on the calendar for weather cancellations. I’ll try to keep the events updated, but I suggest checking with the vendor (links should be in all events).

The snowy weather Saturday will be a perfect backdrop for Sunday’s Sing-A-Long Frozen at Michigan Theater.

Of course if we have significant snowfall, sledding will be a great activity. Check out our list of favorite sledding hills.

Friday is the end of Restaurant Week. Did you enjoy any meals? We went to Totoro on Sunday.

Ann Arbor Restaurant Week - Winter 2019

This weekend the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra hosts a series of KinderConcerts at various local libraries featuring the French Horn.

Saturday is the kickoff of the North American International Auto Show – the last year it will be in January. Next year it will move to June – hopefully with better weather. I attended Media Day on Monday, and have information on all the family friendly activities. This includes a free printable scavenger hunt for the kids.

Kid-Friendly Detroit Auto ShowMonday is jam-packed full of activities for Martin Luther King, Jr Day. I have heard great things about UM’s MLK Children & Youth DayMLK Mega Monday All-You-Can-Play at Zap Zone is always a favorite of my daughter. There are also events at Ann Arbor Art Center and different AADL branches.

    Movies

There is very little change in the movie options this weekend. The biggest new release is M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass. My husband has talked it up to our daughter, but I think she might find it too spooky. I know many of his movies give me the creeps.

If you haven’t seen it, we loved Ralph Breaks the Internet. (It’s the only movie in theaters I’ve seen)

Ralph Breaks the Internet - Ralph & Vanellope get a taste of the internetA Dog’s Way Home continues from its release last weekend. Also carrying over from the holiday season are Spider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseBumblebeeAquaman, and Mary Poppins Returns. I have not seen any, but my daughter saw Mary Poppins Returns with her grandparents last weekend. They said it was ok. Their two complaints was the length of the movie and the lack of any familiar songs.
